Otis has the storyline that ends with a title belt around his waist, but not as a WWE SmackDown Tag Team champion.

When Otis won the Money In The Bank Contract Sunday, the result of AJ Styles fumbling it as he stood on the ladder, it secured him the chance at a title of his choice. Everyone has heard him say beforehand he might cash it in for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

I get it: He wants to be loyal to his friend and fellow tag partner Tucker  Knight and reward him for his support. This is the wrong time for that. We all know Tucker is very protective of Otis and was there to support his friend throughout his pursuit of Mandy. But Otis’ story has gone far beyond the realm of a Tag Team’s rise to prominence in the WWE.

No, this is now all about Otis. But why not cash in for the WWE Championship? What would be wrong with that? Is Otis afraid that if he does that, he’ll inadvertently break up Heavy Machinery?  Does he feel that maybe, just maybe he’ll become this superstar that doesn’t need Tucker anymore? Maybe it’s all of the above, but only time will tell.

The WWE has had some great tag teams over the years we’ve all enjoyed. We all loved the Hart Foundation, but Brett Hart would go on to have a fantastic career as a Singles competitor.  Who can forget The Rockers Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty? Let alone that famous Sweet Chin Music during the Brutus “The Barber” Beefcakes’ segment The Barbershop? This pushed Michaels to Singles competition and the rest, as they say, is history.

Relax. I don’t think Otis will do that. It was just an example. It would be a heck of a swerve though…

Otis needs to put that same energy he had in his pursuit of Mandy into the WWE Championship. It would make sense, considering they’re all on SD Live.  He needs to prove he can pull his own weight, and show he doesn’t need Tucker always watching his back and speaking for him. He needs to step forward and do this on his own, just like he did Sunday at MITB.

But how would Tucker feel about his tag partner having one of the top championships in the WWE and the girl? Honestly, I don’t think the WWE Universe actually cares, so If you think jealousy won’t play a factor in the next couple of days you’re wrong. Eventually, Tucker will get fed up.

We all wanted Otis to get that briefcase. He’s different, he’s unexpected, charismatic, funny, and is in the perfect position to have one of the best storylines of the Summer.  This can’t and won’t happen if he cashes in for the SD Tag Team Titles, because we all want to see Otis in the ring with the WWE Championship and Mandy by his side.

Next. The biggest takeaways from WWE Raw this week. dark

Tell another story besides this one and Otis doesn’t stand out as strong as he does right now. It’s a hard call, but necessary for the WWE as they deal with the absence of main eventers like Roman Reigns. This is a perfect time for Otis to stand out and etch a name for himself, not Heavy Machinery. He can do what Kofi did last year, which was win the WWE Championship while remaining an active member of The New Day.

It can be done. Otis just go for it!
