The May 13 episode of AEW Dynamite featured a murder, a new No. 1 contender for the AEW Women’s Championship, and a cowardly cult leader.

Next Saturday, AEW will air the Double or Nothing Pay Per View, so the May 13 episode was yet another important show on the “Road to Double or Nothing”.

The promotion did a great job of furthering already-announced matches, including title bouts to decide the first-ever TNT Champion and the next AEW World Champion. This week’s show also announced a couple of new matches for the Pay Per View, including the AEW Women’s Championship match.

Here are five takeaways from the show.

It looks like Cody is winning

Lance Archer and Jake Roberts talked a big game to start the show, and I was glad Cody Rhodes interrupted the long-winding, grossly misogynistic (yes, I know it’s on purpose to get “heat”) speech from The Snake.

Rhodes and Archer had an awesome brawl in and out of the ring, and it was great to see Cody getting so much offense and countering some big moves. Roberts and Archer ended up retreating, though you could see that Archer was clearly out for blood.

Based on the way Roberts attacked Brandi Rhodes with the snake, the comments he made about Brandi, and the way he wanted to retreat from the brawl, I think Cody is winning the match at Double or Nothing.

We’re going to see more babyface champions and feel-good stories on AEW and WWE right now, and after everything Archer and Roberts have done, they are being built up for a big loss.
