Sammy Guevara has been a joy to watch in AEW’s Inner Circle faction.

AEW has done a great job of assembling strong, cohesive factions, and the Inner Circle has dominated the main event scene more than anyone else. Although Chris Jericho is no longer champion, the Inner Circle has continued to make waves in the aftermath of his title loss to Jon Moxley.

Jake Hager will have a TNT Title match with Cody Rhodes at Fyter Fest, and Jericho’s mischievous group main evented the promotion’s last Pay Per View, Double or Nothing.

Their Double or Nothing “Stadium Stampede” match was an amazing show-closer with a variety of innovative spots, and it may have been AEW’s most discussed match to date.

It could have been even wilder, if Sammy Guevara got his way.

Guevara has been known for taking jaw-dropping bumps as the brash, never-say-die – as Matt Hardy complimented him on the June 10 episode of Dynamite – attitude. He even got run over by Hardy and The Elite twice!

On a Talk is Jericho appearance, Guevara spoke about how he planned on jumping 30 feet from a staircase in the stadium.

But the best part is how Jericho relayed Guevara’s explanation of how the spot would work. Here’s the quote, courtesy of Cultaholic’s Aidan Gibbons:

"“So, when we got there on Thursday, Sammy comes up to me and he goes you see that, there’s a big staircase that goes from the concourse up to the top of Daily’s Place. He’s like, ‘Yeah like, how about I fall off that staircase?’ I’m like, ‘And what do you land on?’ He goes, ‘Well, you know, we’ll put a pad there but then we’ll take the pad away and it’ll just be on the floor, on the concrete.’ I’m like. ‘What do you think this is, WWE? Where they throw you off a rooftop and you get up the next day. No, you’re not getting thrown off a staircase, falling 30 feet then landing on the cement and then just getting up later. So, no we’re not doing anything in the concourse later now that we’re in this world.'”"

Jericho is referencing how wrestlers in WWE – especially babyfaces – will take major bumps at Pay Per Views but then no-sell any injuries or impact of the bump at the coming event. And AEW is more mindful of that, especially when taping shows in advance.

There’s also the matter that Guevara is so dedicated that he wants to take EVERY over-the-top bump. Getting run over by golf carts isn’t enough for “The Spanish God”. No, no, he wants to jump off the top of a stadium, because he may only get so many opportunities to do it.

Maybe if Guevara takes Hardy’s advice, turns babyface, and leaves Jericho’s faction, he, too, can do those jumps “in this world” with minimal effect.
