WWE fans are having too much fun with the NXT TakeOver XXX name
WWE NXT TakeOver: XXX will take place on August 22 before SummerSlam, and, yes, um, that is an interesting name.
Leave it to wrestling fans to pounce on a little adult humor when WWE decides to throw them a little bone. There was a WWE NXT TakeOver special planned for before SummerSlam on August 22, but since there can’t be shows in Boston, it can’t be NXT TakeOver: Boston, right?
To open this week’s episode of NXT, Keith Lee announced that he would be relinquishing the North American Title he won in the main event of the show on Night 2 of Great American Bash so that other wrestlers can get an opportunity. And William Regal announced some Triple Threat matches to determine the participants of a ladder match to crown a new North American champion at NXT TakeOver: XXX.
XXX. Yes. WWE fans had a field day with this one. One of them even came up with a logo inspired by a certain popular adult film site. (Not that I’ve ever heard of it or anything…)

I mean, that’s what they were going for, right? Like, they had to know wrestling fans would jump ALL over this one. Nothing that can possibly memed will go unmemed by wrestling fans. Wait, is “unmemed” a word? Doesn’t matter, I’m the editor around here, and I say it is.
TakeOver: XXX and a Vince Russo reference? Twitter has really lived up to its reputation as the best free app around!

Oh let’s just say they will keep coming, thick and fast, Gary. The jokes will be insatiable.
Jokes aside, NXT TakeOver: XXX will probably be another incredible TakeOver special. Io Shirai and Dakota Kai are feuding for the NXT Women’s Title, Keith Lee vs. Karrion Kross looks likely for the men’s world title, and the North American Championship ladder match will be one hell of a match to watch as well.
TakeOver specials always deliver, and with the roster as talented as ever, expect TakeOver: XXX to be tremendous, too. And honestly, the name makes it even better. What would we do on Wrestling Twitter without the memes to break up the random fights and dunking on Val Venis and Jim Cornette (among others)?
