According to the latest WWE Rumors, AJ Styles will face a familiar foe for the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam 2020.

The Biggest Party of the Summer, WWE SummerSlam 2020 is set to take place on Aug. 23, and fans are wondering how the rest of the card will shape up. On SmackDown, the Universal Title match is set, with Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman set to go head to head once again. And the SmackDown Women’s Title challenger for Bayley will be decided via a battle royal.

But the Intercontinental Championship picture is crowded. Drew Gulak, Matt Riddle, and even Gran Metalik have recently challenged AJ Styles. Sheamus, King Corbin, Jeff Hardy, and Chad Gable appear to be in the picture as well, leading many to believe that a multi-man match could be in the cards for Styles in a couple of weeks.

However, PWInsider.com’s Mike Johnson reports that Jeff Hardy vs. AJ Styles is expected to be the match at SummerSlam for the Intercontinental Title.

Hardy is coming off a feud with Sheamus that we’d rather not discuss at length. He could be headed for another run with a mid-card title, as he was the United States Champion a couple of years ago. Some fans would like to see him win one of the world titles, but that seems extremely unlikely to happen again at this stage of his career.

But Hardy beating Styles for the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam could be a great feel-good moment. It also seems like Styles was never destined to have a lengthy reign with the title either.

Styles and Hardy are familiar opponents, and while it would have been nice to see a feud between the two for a title get more time to be built up for a show like SummerSlam, they are the kinds of wrestlers who can make it work regardless.

We’ll see how WWE tell this story on SmackDown, and since a Hardy vs. Styles match would leave a lot of guys like Corbin and Gulak out of the picture, that could mean some additional feuds for kick-off matches for them. Some stakes would be nice, if that ends up being the case.
