WWE Draft 2020: 5 wrestlers Raw needs to draft
3. Naomi
Yeah, this would mean she wouldn’t be a part of the rumored Bloodline faction led by Reigns and including Jey and Jimmy Uso, the latter of whom is married to Naomi.
Still, I’m making this pick for one main reason: GIVE ME NAOMI VS. BELAIR, YOU COWARDS.
Let me backtrack a little first. Watch the video above. Did you hear the reaction for Naomi when her music played? Fans adore Naomi, and her reach is so broad that non-wrestling fans took note of a Black woman competing in her afro, loud and proud, bringing in more viewers to WWE programming.
WWE really fumbled the ball with Naomi in 2020, so to speak. It’s been so much of an issue to her fans that they started a viral hashtag, #NaomiDeservesBetter, that was acknowledged by her. She indicated WWE officials have told her they have a big push for her ready to go.
I’ll believe it when I see it, but a good start to that push would be to draft her to Raw.
Naomi would bring some instant credibility as a two-time Champion to what suddenly became a shallow division. She’s proven countless times she is more than just an athletic wrestler, having improved immensely in the past few years.
Naomi has also openly stated she wants to team with Belair, and we know that when executed well, a turn by one partner leading to a feud with the other can be golden (like when Tomasso Ciampa turned on Gargano). Having Naomi and Belair team together also brings a new, fresh team into the tag division, though this could face criticism for WWE throwing two singles wrestlers into yet another team.
Beyond a potential-laden feud with Belair, I would love to see how Naomi adapts to wrestling the “Submission Magician” in Baszler, or a technical yet unorthodox Riott, a legend in James, and eventually a showdown with Asuka, who no one is ever ready for.
Oh, and what happens if “The Man” ever decides she wants to come back to Raw? Sign me up for a Naomi-Becky Lynch feud yesterday.
It’s far past time for WWE to push Naomi. Drafting her to Raw begins the road to reclamation.
