AEW World Championship Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Eddie Kingston

Right from the moment Eddie Kingston stepped into AEW to challenge Cody for the TNT Championship, he felt like a big deal. Kingston has a way of weaving his words that makes even the simplest things feel urgent and brimming with reality, something that likely comes from a process and willingness to tap into something within that he’s spoken about before.

When news broke later that Kingston had officially been signed to AEW, there was hope that the company would not waste time and put their focus on making Kingston a champion sooner rather than later. That seemed closer to becoming a reality during the Casino Battle Royale at AEW All Out 2020.

Kingston didn’t emerge the victor that night, but his “loss” came with an important distinction: he was never officially eliminated from the match. As Eddie Kingston hasn’t been shy to point out, he never went over the top rope, and thus wasn’t actually eliminated from the contest.

Despite that technicality, a last-minute change saw Kingston get a shot at Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship on AEW Dynamite last month. Kingston passed out, and Moxley ended up winning because of the referee’s decision, but Kingston has since been clear he didn’t verbally quit and didn’t willingly tap out.

That’s twice he’s essentially been robbed of his chance to become the AEW World Champion. This past week on AEW Dynamite, Kingston waited patiently for Moxley to defeat Lance Archer before pouncing and making his voice heard.

Now, the stage seems perfectly set. The match isn’t official just yet, but it might as well be after the ending to last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. Eddie Kingston should challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at AEW Full Gear, but can Kingston change the outcome this time and emerge as the AEW World Champion?
