WWE WrestleMania 37 Rumors: The four names mentioned as Roman Reigns’ possible opponent
Roman Reigns will almost certainly head into WWE WrestleMania 37 as the Universal Champion, but who will await him?
There are so many possibilities in the upcoming Royal Rumbles matches as to who punches their ticket to the main event of WWE WrestleMania 37. It’s best when a Rumble feels unpredictable, and we are about to have that situation again in 2021 with Roman Reigns, Sasha Banks, Asuka, and Drew McIntyre as a strong quartet of world champions.
The Tribal Chief has flourished on SmackDown in his new heel character, ruling the Blue Brand with an authority we haven’t seen from a world champion in ages. Reigns has already made enemies with Kevin Owens after the latter disrespected his family, and fans are excited to see who else crosses paths with Reigns on the road to WrestleMania 37.
According to a report from WrestleTalk’s Louis Dangoor, there appear to be four names mentioned by backstage officials as Reigns’ opponent at the Show of Shows next year. WWE is still reportedly holding out hope for The Rock, though they recognize how difficult of a proposition that is.
Big E and Daniel Bryan have also been “discussed”, per Dangoor. Fans would love to see Bryan or E face Reigns at WrestleMania 37, with Big E being the preferred option. We’ve all been ready to see E get his crowning moment soon, and this singles push needs to accelerate when the calendar turns to 2021. He looks like the best pick to win the Rumble.
Finally, Dangoor reports that Drew McIntyre “has been brought up” as another possible opponent for Reigns at the Show of Shows. McIntyre and Reigns were the stars of Survivor Series this year, as they had the only match that felt like it had real stakes. They only needed two episodes of SmackDown to build to the match, and they knocked it out of the park. It was the best match of McIntyre’s career to this point when considering the magnitude of it, since McIntyre had to prove himself a credible WWE Champion by going toe-to-toe with the best in the business.
All four of these opponents – The Rock, Big E, Daniel Bryan, and Drew McIntyre – are compelling in their different ways. But if I had to pick one favorite of the four to face Reigns at WrestleMania 37, then it’s still difficult for me to pick anyone other than Big E.
