The five biggest breakout stars in WWE during 2020
1. Dominik Mysterio
Being the offspring of a wrestler is not easy. For every Charlotte Flair and Randy Orton, there is David Sammartino and Wes Brisco – the task of following in your parent’s footsteps is a daunting one.
Rey Mysterio’s son Dominik made his WWE television debut at the tender age of six – he was involved in his first storyline two years later. He has been destined for greatness from the day he was born.
Dominik has made sporadic appearances for the company since 2005. This year he became a permanent member of the WWE roster, he has not looked back since.
During the summer – Rey and Seth Rollins were in the middle of a heated rivalry. Dominik stood up for his father after the master of the 619 had his eye removed by the Monday Night Messiah. Dominik vowed to make his dad proud and seek revenge against Rollins.
On the August 10th edition of Raw – we witnessed one of the most brutal segments of the year as Rollins destroyed Dominik with several kendo stick shots to the body. Dominik’s selling was brilliant. This was his on-air audition – he passed with flying colours.
Social media was full of people who complained Dominik had not “paid his dues” and was only in WWE because of nepotism – that is not the case, his talent is the reason why he is in this position. His body was covered in bruises after Rollins’ assault, his dues and more were paid after that beating.
Dominik made his in-ring debut at WWE SummerSlam against Seth Rollins. The 23-year-old put in a solid performance considering he was not sent to NXT for extra seasoning and was his first match in the company.
Since that match – Dominik has teamed with his dad, faced Rollins again in a Steel Cage Match, went one-on-one match with Murphy, and was runner up in the Duel Brand Battle Royale at WWE Survivor Series. He continues to improve every time he steps inside the squared circle – his acting is also getting better.
No matter what he does – Dominick will always be compared to Rey, he has done a good job of handling that pressure so far.
