The Royal Rumble match is always full of surprises. Over the years, we have had many thrilling debuts and returns during the match.

Many WWE fans will tell you that their favorite pay-per-view is the Royal Rumble. Since its inception in 1988, the Royal Rumble match has provided many memorable and historic WWE moments. We have seen the debuts of huge stars and returns of many legends show up during the match.

Most recently, WWE pulled off an emotional Royal Rumble surprise when Edge made a shocking return in 2020. This year, I am expecting to have a special Royal Rumble show. We are honoring the legacy of the legendary Pat Patterson, the creator of the match. In honor of his name, this year will have a sentimental value.

It is going to be tough for anybody to outshine Edge’s epic return, but there are still many possibilities for superstars to return this year. Perhaps we could even see Edge pull off the three-peat by returning again this year. Or perhaps this year it will be Christian that makes a surprising return. As we await the 2021 Royal Rumble, let’s rank the top ten Royal Rumble returns.

Before we get to the official list, here are a few honorable mentions:

Roddy Piper (2008)
