WWE legend opens the door for a match against Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks is at the top of the industry as the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion and a rising star in Hollywood. Who wouldn’t want to step in the ring with her?
For years, WWE fans have known that Sasha Banks is the next big breakout star both in professional wrestling and Hollywood. Finally, in 2020 and heading into 2021, the promotion seems ready to give Banks a lengthy title run at the top.
Banks won the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time in her career against long-time friend/rival Bayley at Hell in a Cell, and then she “proved” she could successfully defend the championship against Bayley one week later on SmackDown.
She has been part of the most acclaimed matches in WWE history, including the previous Hell in a Cell bout against Becky Lynch. And so, she’s ready to have a barnburner with one of the legends of the industry.
At the 2018 Royal Rumble Pay Per View, Sasha and Trish Stratus had a staredown with each other that led fans to practically beg for a dream match between them. A year later, we saw Trish face Charlotte Flair in an excellent match at SummerSlam, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wanting to see Stratus, one of the biggest game-changers in wrestling history, back in the ring again. Specifically, in a match against Sasha.
Recently, Stratus was a guest on POST Wrestling’s Christmas Show and stated that she has “unfinished business” with Sasha Banks. You can read the full quote here, with a snippet provided below:
"“I respect her so much as a worker, as a person, as a friend and so yeah, I think as a fan and personally, I think that would be an interesting thing to pursue, possibly at some point. Maybe possibly down the line at some point.”"
It’s safe to say the vast majority of wrestling fans would love to see Sasha Banks vs. Trish Stratus at any point, perhaps as another SummerSlam match for Trish in 2021.
Banks could be headed for a year-long reign with the SmackDown Women’s Title, though there’s also the possibility she puts over another future top star in Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 37. But there’s a lot of time between now and then.
Regardless, Sasha vs. Trish is a big-money match that doesn’t need to be sold to viewers, other than the mere mention of their names. We know the admiration both women have for each other, and they would deliver a classic.
