There’s nothing quite like a Rumble surprise, so what could be in store at WWE Royal Rumble 2021?

On Jan. 31 at Tropicana Field, WWE Royal Rumble 2021 will be broadcast, and the field feels wide open, particularly with respect to the Women’s Rumble match. But for wrestling fans, the Rumble matches are about so much more than just who wins. We’re also here for the returns, the new feuds that are created, the face-offs between stars of the past and future, and all the intrigue that comes with a 30-person battle royal with the main event of WrestleMania at stake.

It’s hard to top Edge’s return in 2020, but here are five possible surprises for the WWE Royal Rumble 2021 Pay Per View next month.

Melina returns to WWE

There was already a rumor about Melina signing with the company and making her return back in September, but, well, it’s been more than three months and we still haven’t seen the former five-time WWE Women’s Champion.

That probably means Melina won’t be back at all, but it could also mean WWE has been waiting to have her return until the Royal Rumble match itself, which is usually a great place for big returns. We won’t get “return pops” in the customary sense, but fans will still find a way to enjoy the nostalgia. After all, WWE is giving us a “legend’s night” on the first Raw of 2021, so I wouldn’t be shocked if Melina is a Royal Rumble entrant.
