AEW Dynamite is back this Wednesday with four announced matches that feature a great mix of established stars and some up and comers with bright futures.  Also on tap for the show is the in-ring debut of Kenta in AEW after his shocking appearance at the end of last week’s Dynamite.

AEW is changing the landscape of professional wrestling as it continues to develop relationships with other promotions.  Aside from AEW talent, last week’s Dynamite featured wrestlers under contract with Impact, New Japan, and NWA.  It is anyone’s guess who might show up on Dynamite moving forward, and that alone will create a buzz for the show each and every week.

Let’s take a look at the four announced matchups for this show and what to expect from each of them.

Darby Allin vs Joey Janela for the TNT Championship

This pairing seems a little odd considering the vastly different trajectories of the two competitors involved.  Janela’s AEW run has been very underwhelming up to this point.  While enjoying moderate success as a tag team with Sonny Kiss, Janela has yet to find his footing as a singles competitor.  His last AEW singles victory came in September when he defeated Serpetico at the All Out pay-per-view buy-in.

Allin on the other hand has enjoyed a rocket-like ascent up the card since debuting in the promotion.  His climb has included two matches for the AEW Championship and culminated with a victory over Cody at Full Gear and being crowned the TNT Champion.

While AEW may be putting their proverbial “foot in their mouth” by claiming the rankings matter and then booking this match, something tells me this is going to be fun to watch.  In Janela and Allin you have two of the craziest risk-takers in all of wrestling. There will be some fun spots, a likely appearance from Team Tazz and Sting, and a coffin drop for a victory.  Winner: Darby Allin

Cody Rhodes & Lee Johnson vs Peter Avalon & Cezar Bononi

Three regulars on AEW Dark will get a chance to show us what they’ve got on Dynamite this week alongside Cody Rhodes.

This match will most likely be about advancing the storyline between Jade Cargill, Red Velvet, Cody, and Shaq while giving some TV time to three performers that don’t regularly get it.

Despite most of the competitors in this match not exactly being household names, it has a chance to be a very good match.  Lee Johnson is extremely athletic and talented.  He is definitely someone to watch over the next year as he continues to develop.  Cezar Bononi is a veteran of the NXT brand and was a casualty of the cuts made due to the pandemic.  So Bononi will definitely be looking to take advantage of the opportunity to appear on Dynamite.  Peter Avalon is…….well, Peter Avalon.

This match will pleasantly surprise a lot of viewers that aren’t expecting much from it.  In the end, Cody and Lee Johnson will pick up the victory, in spite of whatever shenanigans Jade Cargill might throw their way.  Winners: Cody Rhodes & Lee Johnson

Chris Jericho & MJF vs The Acclaimed

Fresh off their victory in the Tag Team Battle Royal last week, the official tag team of The Inner Circle will take on the official tag team of bad battle rapping, The Acclaimed.

The Acclaimed has shined in the ring every time they have had an opportunity to wrestle on Dynamite.  Coupling that with their recent string of victories on AEW Dark and they have moved into the tag team rankings as the number 4 ranked team.

While Jericho is no stranger to putting over younger talent, this is not the time nor the place for that.  Jericho and MJF will be challenging The Young Bucks for the AEW Tag Team Championships at Revolution and they will continue to build momentum and head into that show on a winning streak.

The future may indeed belong to The Acclaimed.  But the present is all about Jericho and MJF.  Even as the foundations of The Inner Circle continue to crack more and more each week, Jericho and MJF will stay on their course towards tag team gold.  Winners: Chris Jericho & MJF

Kenny Omega & Kenta vs Jon Moxley & Lance Archer

In the highly anticipated main event of this week’s Dynamite, we will see NJPW star Kenta, make his AEW in-ring debut, when he teams with Kenny Omega to take on Jon Moxley and Lance Archer.

Last week’s Dynamite concluded with Kenta attacking Moxley and standing over him as the show came to a close.  Kenta has his eyes fixed firmly on the IWGP United State Championship that is currently held by Jon Moxley.  In fact, Kenta is the only participant in this match that has not held this title.

With the amount of talent that will be featured in this match, it is hard to imagine that it will be anything but great.  However, the ending will be anything but clean.  More than likely interference from Don Callis and/or The Good Brothers will be the deciding factor in this match.

The post-match donnybrook will most likely also involve Rey Fenix and Pac and who knows who else.  AEW does a wonderful job of surprising us on a weekly basis and creating a buzz that is missing in other promotions.  We are on the road to Revolution and it is trending to be the best AEW pay-per-view yet.  Winners: Kenny Omega & Kenta
