Which champion should Bianca Belair challenge and why?
By Simon Hannig
Now that Bianca Belair has won the 2021 women’s Royal Rumble match, she can decide to face the women’s champion of her choosing at WrestleMania 37 in Tampa, Fla.
She can challenge the following champions:
- Raw Women’s champion Asuka: 169 days as champion.
- SmackDown Women’s champion Sasha Banks: 106 days as champion.
- NXT Women’s champion Io Shirai: 246 days as champion.
However, the champion she should pick, and she has hinted she wanted to face her before, is Sasha Banks. Belair vs. Banks has “night one (or night two) WrestleMania main event” written all over it.
This is why Bianca Belair should choose to face Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 37.
Belair has previously expressed why she wants a match with Banks, and it involves so much more than wrestling. She explains her reasoning in an interview with the New York Post before the Royal Rumble.
"“Just the thought of Sasha Banks and I having a match at WrestleMania gives me goosebumps,” Belair said. “I’ve said this before, it’s not about feeding my ego, it’s so much bigger than just having a wrestling match. Just having two strong women whose characters stand for, you know we are alpha females. We want to empower women and having two females who stand for the exact same thing and two African-American women standing in the same ring that is top-level representation right there and that’s for women, that’s for black women. I just feel like anybody, whoever you are that right there is just inspiring and just the thought of it … That answer is the same thing, it’s a feeling that you can’t describe if I was ever to be in the ring with Sasha Banks at WrestleMania.”"
This would be a high profile match that will have everyone talking about it long after it’s over. Banks is on the top of the world right now and killing it as SmackDown Women’s Champion. Having Banks face a young superstar who is on the rise feels just right.
The WWE can do no wrong in regard to which champion they want Belair to face at WrestleMania, but, the big money match points and screams to Banks vs. Belair.
This is a dream match that needs to happen sooner rather than later, and WWE has a lot of time to create a storyline and feud between Banks and Belair.
Both superstars have different characters and personalities. Belair has a combination of strength, speed, and confidence. Conversely, Banks is an aggressive competitor who likes for her opponents to tap out to the Boss Statement.
Banks always brings the best out of her opponents and I think we will see the best of Belair if the two face each other. We could even see a whole other side of Belair we have not seen yet.
It seems like the two already have great chemistry whether they are working together in segments, or in the ring.
Imagine the possibilities these two would bring in a match together and new things they will create for the WWE Universe to keep the match and storyline more compelling.
What also helps the WWE is that both superstars are on the same brand, and it makes sense for Belair to go after Banks and the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Even after WrestleMania, you can still continue the feud a bit longer if needed.
This past Friday night on SmackDown, Belair tried to tell the WWE Universe who she was going to pick, but things quickly went downhill once Reginald and Carmella interrupted her.
Belair was also recently put over by Paul Heyman on Talking Smack over the weekend. It is clear the WWE has big things in store for Belair and plan to make her a champion.
Who would you like for Belair to challenge at WrestleMania 37 in Tampa?
