WWE will be moving NXT to Tuesday nights starting on April 13th

Only two years after AEW and WWE began going head to head the end of the war is in sight. According to a report from Aidan Gibbons with Cultaholic.com WWE has called it quits on their losing battle with All Elite Wrestling and will begin airing NXT on Tuesday nights starting on April 13th.

This news comes via The Mat Men Podcast’s Twitter account. The account which has broken news and proved to have reliable sources within the WWE in the past tweeted the following.

Since the wars beginning in October of 2019 NXT has struggled in the ratings against their younger competitor especially in the key 18-49 demographic. With AEW regularly coming out on top.

NXT did find success several times though when running unopposed, a fact that probably inspired the move to Tuesday Nights.

A similar move was rumored early in 2019 but reportedly shut down by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

With the WWENetworks absorption by Peacock on the horizon and less than ideal subscription numbers coming for both services. An unposed run on Tuesday nights may be just what the doctor ordered.

As of press time, there has been no official confirmation from the WWE about the move. However, this would signal a massive shift in the weekly wrestling landscape. With NXT moving to Tuesday nights they would no longer be splitting the nearly 1.5 million people who watch wrestling on Wednesday nights between the brands which could lead to a massive rating boost for both companies.

A fact that could be a saving grace for the WWE with the recent sale of their streaming network to NBC’s Peacock service amid reports of less than ideal subscriber numbers. With NBC taking a larger stake in the performance of the product it is easy to believe that McMahon’s strategy of waiting out the competition, which worked to his benefit in the 90’s was no longer acceptable to the network.
