Five more predictions for the AEW Revolution signing
AEW Revolution is set to take place this Sunday on PPV and in select theaters across the United States. The card for the major show is quite staked, and the wrestling community is looking forward to the action. But one thing that should be on everyone’s mind, is the surprise debut that will happen on the card.
On this week’s AEW Dynamite, Paul Wight made his on-screen AEW television debut. He cut a promo about his happiness of being a commentator for AEW Dark Elevation. Paul Wight also stated that there will be a major AEW debut and that this person has a Hall of Fame career.
I initially thought that this could be a big swerve as Paul Wight will be the one to actually debut during the show. You know, the running gag of the number of times he turned babyface and heel in WWE. But it is not the case here as Tony Khan said on a recent AEW Unrestricted podcast that this is legitimate as this unannounced person signed a multi-year contract with the company.
This made me think of who has Tony Khan signed to AEW. It is being promoted as a Hall of Fame level talent and I am sure that it is not Tito Ortiz (unless AEW was an MMA promotion). It is time for me to make a few predictions on who it could be.
Christian
Christian recently returned to WWE at this year’s Royal Rumble. Christian retired back in 2014 due to having a career-ending concussion, so to see his return was shocking. As of right now, Christian is not under a WWE contract. To see him in AEW and competing in matches would be great and Christian can fit very well in either the main event or mid-card division. Edge did use AEW as leverage before he returned to WWE last year. Who’s to say that Christian did the same thing as well.
The Great Muta
Although The Great Muta is currently signed with Pro Wrestling NOAH and their current GHC Heavyweight Champion, I can see the legendary wrestler show up in AEW. The Great Muta has a Hall of Fame career that spans over 35 years in several promotions such as AJPW, NJPW, NOAH, WCW, TNA, and even Championship Wrestling from Florida. Muta is one of the first wrestlers to have a big following outside Japan and he still has a large fanbase. Knowing that Tony Khan can make connections, The Great Muta could be a possibility.
Victoria
Both Paul Wight and Tony Khan said that someone that has a Hall of Fame career is coming to AEW. But they both did not specify if the person is a male or female until later. So I hoped that this person would be Victoria (Lisa Marie Varon) who is also a great choice. For years, it seemed like WWE ignored that she even existed. That was until the 2021 Royal Rumble event. Victoria deserves to be in any Hall of Fame whether if it is in WWE or anywhere else. She can really bring a ton to the table on the AEW Women’s Division on screen and behind the scenes.
CM Punk
For years since his departure from WWE in 2014, fans wanted to see CM Punk return in a ring. And this Sunday on AEW Revolution, it could be a perfect time to debut CM Punk on the promotion. The good thing that can come from this, is that CM Punk would not have to wrestle the whole time as he could also be a commentator, or a manager. There is still a ton of name-value left of CM Punk and the announcement of Punk signing with AEW makes sense for the audience that loves AEW, and for the lapsed fans that want to see him back.
This has to be the most logical choice since it is hyped up to be a Hall of Fame-worthy talent. Knowing who AEW is marketed towards, this announcement cannot be disappointing. It has to be CM Punk or even John Cena for the way this is being built up.
