AEW Dynamite: Preview and Predictions for March 31st, 2021
AEW Dynamite returns this Wednesday with 5 announced matches taking place on the card. Both the AEW Men’s and Women’s Champions will participate in a tag team match as Kenny Omega teams with the Good Brothers and Hikaru Shida teams with the number one contender to her title, Tay Conti.
Christian Cage will make his AEW in-ring debut when he faces off with Frankie Kazarian. We will also get our first look at what is being called the Arcade Anarchy Match in what should be the blowoff match between Miro, Kip Sabian, Chuck Taylor, and Orange Cassidy.
Let’s take a more in-depth look at the five matches and what we can expect from each.
Miro & Kip Sabian vs Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy
The first Arcade Anarchy Match will take place on this week’s Dynamite as Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy will battle Miro and Kip Sabian in what Chuck Taylor called “one last match”. Chuck also offered to by Miro’s butler for life if he and Orange Cassidy were not victorious in this match.
The stipulation offered by Taylor points us decidedly in the direction of the outcome of this match. While Trent? won’t be back for awhile there are much better ways to use Chuck than having him be a butler for Miro. Plus, this feud just needs to end, and putting Taylor back in his butler role ensures that it will not. Miro needs to move on from this tag team feud so he can start his ascent up the card.
Having Taylor and Orange Cassidy come out victorious here is also a nice, clean way to sever the ties between Miro and Kip Sabian. Miro has shown in the past he puts winning above all else. Having Sabian eat the loss here will lead to Miro losing his mind and demolishing his former best friend.
Sabian can blame Chuck Taylor for it all and the two of them can have a nice long feud on Dark or Dark: Elevation over the coming weeks. Miro can then move on to take on Orange Cassidy or someone else further up the card as he begins his climb up the singles rankings. Winners: Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy
Cody Rhodes vs QT Marshall (Exhibition Match)
Best friends will face off in an exhibition match as QT Marshall will take on Cody Rhodes with Arn Anderson refereeing.
This match is stemming from QT Marshall feeling slighted and overlooked in his role at AEW which led him to challenge Cody to this exhibition. QT wants the opportunity to show he can hang with the best AEW has to offer, and in his estimation, that is Cody Rhodes.
Cody reluctantly accepted the challenge, but let QT know that he would not complete any of the moves he is able to secure, such as the Cody Cutter or the figure four, as he does not want to inflict harm on his friend.
This seems pretty cut and dry. Cody will dominate this exhibition which will build QT’s frustration throughout the match until he snaps during the match, attacking Cody’s injured shoulder. The question here is where does Arn Anderson fit in?
AEW’s long-term storytelling makes us consider all possibilities. It was not long ago that Anderson was outwardly frustrated with Cody’s actions during matches on a regular basis. Will we finally see the payoff of that and see Arn side with QT?
I don’t think so. It is more likely QT snaps and leaves both Cody and Arn lying beaten down in the ring, completing his heel turn and leaving the Nightmare Family. Winner: No Contest
Christian Cage vs Frankie Kazarian
The AEW in-ring debut of Christian Cage will take place this Wednesday as Cage goes one-on-one with Frankie Kazarian. This match was set up during a backstage conversation between Christian and Kazarian when Frankie seemed to take some offense to Christian’s shirt which read Out Work Everyone.
This is a really smart first match for Christian as he will be in the ring with a versatile veteran that is capable of putting on a great match and selling well for Cage.
Wrestling fans are very interested to see just how Christian is going to look now that he is back to full-time competition. If his Royal Rumble performance back in January is any indication then he will look just fine. It wouldn’t be surprising if this is the match of the night with Christian earning a hard-fought win. Winner: Christian Cage
Hikaru Shida & Tay Conti vs The Bunny & Nyla Rose
Coming off the biggest win of her career, Tay Conti will team with AEW Women’s Champion, Hikaru Shida to take on Nyla Rose and The Bunny.
Much like they did with Darby Allin, AEW has done a masterful job of building Tay Conti into a legitimate contender for the women’s title. She was finally able to take down Nyla Rose in their third match after suffering losses in the first two. Conti was also given an NWA Championship match versus Serena Deeb, and once again came up short but learned the lessons that would help propel her forward. In between those opportunities, she was active on Dark and really expanded her offensive repertoire.
To put it plainly, Tay Conti has arrived. And it seems as if she is next in line for a shot at Shida’s World Title. So it wouldn’t make a lot of sense for either Conti or Shida to take a pin here. Keeping both the long-time champion and the upstart challenger looking strong is the most logical outcome. Conti will score the pinfall on The Bunny and then challenge Shida to a match for her AEW Women’s Title. Winners: Hikaru Shida and Tay Conti
Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers vs The Laredo Kid & The Lucha Brothers
In what will most likely be the main event of the evening Kenny Omega will team with his henchmen, The Good Brothers, to take on the Laredo Kid and the Lucha Brothers.
After eating superkicks that bloodied up the AEW Champion last week, Kenny Omega will be out for revenge in this match. Any time that Omega has needed some back up he has been able to call upon Gallows and Anderson to provide it. And after seemingly ending ties with The Young Bucks last week, the heels seemed to have bitten off more than they can chew here.
They not only have to worry about the extremely talented trio they are facing in the match but also have to be looking over both shoulders as Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston are sure to be lurking around Daily’s Place. Not to mention the possibility of the Young Bucks looking for some sort of retaliation after Omega’s tirade last week.
But at the end of the day, the numbers just don’t add up. We just don’t see the heels outnumbered often in pro wrestling. The bad guys always seemingly have the numbers advantage, or at the very least have even numbers. If they didn’t then the babyfaces end up looking like a bunch of bullies.
The Young Bucks have teased a full-on heel turn for months. This seems like the perfect spot for the tease to end.
After Omega and The Good Brothers pick up the win a beatdown will ensue. Moxley and Kingston will hit the ring, followed closely behind by the Young Bucks. While it will seem that they are all coming to the aid of the Lucha Brothers and the Laredo Kid the Young Bucks will pick the perfect spot to lay out Mox and Kingston and side with their old running mates. The show will close with the Young Bucks, Good Brothers, and Kenny Omega throwing up the too sweet signs while grinning ear to ear. Winners: Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers
