The main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite featured The Young Bucks & Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers, and the return of Mike Tyson to AEW.

The Inner Circle arrived to open the show, making their official AEW Dynamite return after taking bock their locker room last week.

Hangman Page (9-0) vs. Max Caster w/ Anthony Bowens

Caster cut a great rap to trash talk Hangman. Bowens came in the ring and cut off a graphic insult from Caster saying they couldn’t say that on TV. Hangman booted Bowens in the face and attacked Caster right away. Page beat Caster around the ring and ringside, also getting in the face of Bowens.

Caster started to get the heat a little bit when he pulled Hangman into the ring post, and Bowens attacked and sent Hangman into the guardrail. Caster kept the heat up for a few minutes, including hitting Hangman with a punch from a chain covered hand, but Hangman kicked out.

Hangman went for the Buckshot Lariat, but Bowens caught his foot to stop him. Hangman kicked him off and did a moonsault to the floor on Bowens before climbing back onto the apron and hitting a Buckshot Lariat for the pinfall. Great opening match.

Result: Hangman Page (10-0)

Rating: *** (3 stars)

This was an excellent opening match that highlighted Hangman’s ability to overcome the heels. In other companies, when the distraction happened along with being hit with the weapon, the heel would win and the babyface would look dumb. In AEW, he kicked out and overcame the odds, looking strong and heroic. Great pro wrestling.

Tony Schiavone was out to interview the Death Triangle, but before they could talk the Best Friends came out said they remembered what happened last year when Orange Cassidy faced PAC, but PAC said he knew what they were doing – they wanted a shot at the next tag team champion. Trent said that it’s funny that they say they’re the next champions when the Best Friends have more wins than any other tag team in AEW, and that the Best Friends (w/ Kris Statlander) were back and they weren’t going to sit back for anyone.

The Inner Circle came out and Jericho pitched them to break before he talked, and Sammy Guevara brought back the signs, telling the women to hit him up. He said whether it was tables, doors, ice baths, or even glass, the Inner Circle has hits for days, then delivered this message: “Hey Pinnacle! How are you feeling? One more thing… it feels good to be back!”

Jericho said that the Inner Circle was back, and it was a month ago that the “Pineapple” beat them up. Sammy corrected it to say Pinnacle. Jericho apologized for the decisions they made over the last 6 months, saying that they didn’t treat people like they should. Jericho said that MJF was a major part of why they were so awful to others.

Jericho admitted that he took MJF in to use him, knowing that turn was going to happen, but he didn’t anticipate that MJF was going to out think him with his own stable. He said that MJF was a fine wine, only getting better with age, but he didn’t want to wait, and wanted to be better than Jericho now, but Jericho warned him that those are big shoes to fill.

Jericho said that he was rocking the scarf gimmick 5 years ago and he stole it from him, so he had a clipboard if he wanted to add it to “THE LIST” of gimmicks he stole from Jericho. Jericho said that MJF was a mark for himself, and that he would never be better than him, and he knew it, stealing MJF’s catchphrase.

Jericho then said Tully Blanchard was a 3rd rate Horseman, and that FTR was a great tag team, but he couldn’t tell the difference between them and didn’t know their names. He buried Wardlow and Spears as well, and then called for Blood & Guts for May 5th against the Pinnacle! Jericho promised that the worst was yet to come, and God help them.

This was an incredible promo.

Christian Cage was with Dasha, saying that he has been fighting for 7 years to get back, and Kazarian pushed him to the limits last week. Taz interrupted the promo, saying he knew Christian for a long time. Taz made an offer for Christian to join Team Taz, saying Christian could help his guys, and he could help him, and left him to think on it.

The Godzilla vs. Kong Tag Match: Jurassic Express (Luchasuarus & Jungle Boy) (5-0) vs. Bear Country (Bear Boulder & Bear Bronson) (6-1)

Jungle Boy hit dives on Bronson quickly, but was caught on a tope con giro by both Bear Country. Luchasarus did one instead, and they couldn’t catch the huge man. However, their advantage didn’t last long as Bear Country started to get the heat on Jungle Boy. Boulder hit a back body drop on Jungle Boy, but he managed to tag out to Luchasaurus who ran wild on both men with suplexes and kicks.

Luchasaurus had Boulder on the top rope and went to chokeslam him off it, but Boulder countered and hit a superplex on him. Jungle Boy broke up the pinfall with a splash and then hit a springboard DDT on Bronson. Luchasaurus hit a fireman’s carry on Boulder, but Bronson slammed Jungle Boy onto both of them to break it up before hitting a double cannonball on Luchasaurus.

Luchasaurus clotheslined Boulder from the ring and then chokeslammed Bronson and hit a moonsault for the pinfall.

Result: The Jurassic Express

Rating: **3/4 (2.75 stars)

Solid tag match here, as the Godzilla of the teams came out on top over the Kong (or bears in this case).

QT Marshall cut a good promo, explaining that he was tired of doing the work for Cody with Cody taking all the credit while QT worked behind the scenes. He then said he was taking 3 men to the top in Aaron Solow, Anthony Ogogo, and Nick Comoroto before throwing pain on the Nightmare Factory logo, saying that this was his training school, and it wasn’t Cody’s anymore.

Sting came out for an interview with Tony Schiavone, but he was interrupted by Jake Roberts. Lance Archer grabbed the mic and said that he was a main event guy, and that he was tired of people taking his spot, making a main event, then being taken off TV. Sting grabbed the mic and said it was his time to talk, and he needed to shut his mouth and open his ears.

Sting said that he agreed that Archer was a main event talent, and that he didn’t understand why he would get to one and then disappear. Sting said that Roberts should be teaching him how to channel that energy, and that he should be getting main events on TNT and fighting for the World championship. Sting then challenged him, saying “Do it! Earn that spot!” and left. Archer was very happy with what he heard, and left. Excellent promo from Sting, who should be talking more as he’s one of the best promos in wrestling.

Team Taz had an argument backstage, with Taz saying that Starks needed to stop instigating Cage.

Darby Allin (5-0) w/ Sting vs. JD Drake (2-3) w/ Ryan Nemeth & Cezar Benoni

Allin hit a suicide dive on JD Drake early on, sending him flying, but Ryan Nemeth distracted Allin and Drake was able to recover. Sting chased off Nemeth, as Drake got the heat on Allin for the next few minutes in the ring. Drake overpowered Darby throughout the match, as Sting took out Cezar Benoni at ringside too.

Drake threw Darby against the ropes on the outside of the ring and clotheslined him as he bounced back towards the ground. That looked brutal. Drake missed a cannonball into the guardrail and Allin hit a flip dive over the turnbuckle to the floor onto Benoni and Drake.

Drake continued to dominate though, hitting strikes after he put Allin in the tree of woe. Drake hit a cannonball on Allin and then a Vader Bomb for a 2 count. Drake went to the top rope and missed a huge moonsault. Allin hit an avalanche Code Red and then the Coffin Drop for the pinfall.

Result: Darby Allin (6-0)

Rating: **** (4 stars)

Fantastic match from Allin and Drake here, as they got some good time. I was really impressed with Drake. Allin sold like crazy for him, and made him look great.

After the match, the Hardy Family Office attacked Allin and went to throw him through the announce table. The Bunny was arguing with the announcers, saying they should take everything off it, but as she was fighting with the announcers Sting and the Dark Order came out to make the save, with -1 being right there. The Hardy Family Office ran away, leaving the Bunny to turn around and be alone. Tay Conti attacked and as the referees pulled them apart, they cut to a hype video for the main event.

Alex Marvez was with Chris Jericho and Marvez confirmed that Blood & Guts was going to happen. As Jericho started to talk, Pinnacle attacked and started a 6 on 1 beatdown on Jericho. The Inner Circle’s locker room was bolted shut. Pinnacle set up a table at ringside and Wardlow went to powerbomb Jericho through it to the floor.

Mike Tyson’s music hit and he ran out and started throwing punches, attacking The Pinnacle. Tyson laid out Shawn Spears in an epic beatdown, as the crowd exploded in cheers for Tyson. Tyson and Jericho came face to face again, and this time they shook hands to a huge pop from the audience. The crowd went insane for Inner Circle, and it seems they have united with Mike Tyson. This was awesome.

Britt Baker was backstage, saying that she deserved a title shot because she was the biggest star in the division, and it shouldn’t be based of wins and losses. But, because she’s a role model she was going to make sure that she was going to win every single match going forward to climb the ladder to the #1 contender position, saying that we need to watch Elevation, Dark, and Dynamite to see her win. I liked the plugging of the YouTube shows, as it can get people invested in the story of Baker to tune in and see her climb the ladder.

The Bunny (13-3) w/ The Hardy Family Office vs. Tay Conti (9-2) w/ -1, The Dark Order, & Hikaru Shida

Conti and -1 had a really cute handshake as they came out, and Conti gave him a big hug. Conti is the #1 ranked contender to Shida’s title, so it seems Shida that wanted to make sure that Conti had a fair fight with Bunny. Conti hit a big capture suplex on Bunny and a facewash in the corner.

Bunny blocked a kick and tripped Conti so she landed face first on the apron. Bunny suplexed her on the floor and then dropkicked Conti into the guardrail. Bunny used a chinlock, putting her weight right on the back on Conti. The Dark Order and Hardy Family Office got into a brawl at ringside that distracted the ref.

The Bunny took this chance to grab the kendo stick from Shida, but Shida took it back and Bunny ate a suplerplex from Conti. Conti then hit the DDTay for the pinfall. Shida looked very impressed with Shida. Conti hugged -1 as the Dark Order celebrated, and it looks like Conti has further confirmed her #1 contender position.

Result: Tay Conti

Rating: **1/2 (2.5 stars)

Solid match from both women here, as Tay Conti continues to improve at an impressive rate. It’s astonishing to see how good she is getting so fast.

Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) (3-0) w/ Don Callis vs. Jon Moxley (32-2-1) ( & The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) (2-0 in 2021)

Callis continued to claim that the Bucks only cared about money and not their friendship with Kenny, which is exactly the opposite, like a good heel. The Bucks took out Omega and Anderson, while Moxley clotheslined Gallows to the floor. All three men hit dives on other men as they went to break, with Moxley doing a high flying pose with the Bucks, which was hilarious.

Moxley hit a few suplexes on everyone, but Gallows was able to use his power to overwhelm Moxley and start to get the heat on him. Moxley ducked a clothesline and hit a neckbreaker on Gallows. Nick Jackson and Karl Anderson started fighting in the ring, and Nick ran wild, hitting flying knees on Gallows and then a flying stomp on Gallows into a backstabber on Anderson.

Nick hit a kick on Gallows, but ate a spinebuster from Karl Anderson, who tagged out to Omega. Matt Jackson and Omega got in the ring, and Omega backed off and asked for a standard tie up, but Jackson hit hip tosses and a back body drop on Omega, and hit a DDT, spiking him. Matt Jackson went to hit a superkick on Omega, but he couldn’t do it.

Omega slapped Matt, and Mat started hitting punches on Omega. Gallows came in, but Nick Jackson cut him off and Omega hit two snap dragon suplexes on Matt Jackson with no hesitation soon thereafter. Omega went for a V-Trigger, but Moxley took Omega’s head off with a clothesline and Matt Jackson hit a piledriver on Omega.

Matt Jackson asked if Omega was okay, because he didn’t want to hurt his friend. Matt picked him up and they hit More Bang for Your Buck on Omega, but Anderson broke up the pinfall. Nick Jackson hit a dive on Anderson and Gallows, and Matt looked sad at Omega. Matt couldn’t bring himself to hit the BTE Trigger on Omega, but Moxley told them to do it.

Nick looked ready to hit it, but Matt couldn’t do it. Moxley tagged himself in and went to finish the job, and he killed Omega with a Paradigm shift, a second one, and then locked on the rear naked choke. Moxley went for a Gotch Style Piledriver, but the Young Bucks superkicked Moxley, as they didn’t want to see their friend hurt.

Eddie Kingston came out and got attacked by the Good Brothers, and they hit the Magic Killer on him on the ramp. The Good Brothers then hit the Magic Killer on Moxley, and the Good Brothers grabbed Omega and put him on top for the pin as the Bucks looked so sad. They looked very conflicted.

Result: The Good Brothers & Kenny Omega (4-0)

Rating: ***3/4 (3.75 stars)

This was a very story driven match, so it was less about match quality and the reluctance of Matt Jackson, in particular, to hurt Kenny Omega. Nick seemed less conflicted about it, but he had his share as well. After the match, the Good Brothers picked up Moxley and demanded that the Young Bucks superkick him.

They looked reluctant at first, showing that they didn’t want to do it, but they looked down, steeled their resolve, and kicked Moxley’s head off, uniting the Bullet Club in AEW officially. They looked like they regrated doing it after it happened, but Matt Jackson nodded, took a deep breathe, and apologized to Kenny Omega as the show went off the air.

This was a brilliantly executed angle, where every bit of it felt real. Of course, the Bucks would be hesitant to hurt their friend, and it seemed that the words of Callis got to them, because money really didn’t mean more to them than their friendship with Kenny. Callis, of course, was playing them, but they were left to doubt if they really valued their money more than their friendship with Omega. This was a perfectly executed angle.

The show went off the air with Tony Schiavone saying “The Bullet Club is back together!” Big things are happening in AEW.

Final Thoughts:

This was an excellent episode of AEW Dynamite, and had some big time story developments happening. We have the first ever Blood & Guts confirmed, and Mike Tyson appearing to help the Inner Circle was a huge pop for the live crowd, and me at home. The reuniting of the Bullet Club in AEW is a very interesting thing, and I wonder if we will see GoD or some other Bullet Club members show up soon. Time will tell on that one.

Either way, this was a big episode of AEW Dynamite where a lot of stories were pushed forward, from the women’s #1 contendership, to Britt Baker saying she was gunning for Shida, to Sting and Archer, and a lot more happening. Great episode of AEW Dynamite.
