WWE: Cesaro’s single push must start after WrestleMania victory
WrestleMania season is all about moments where the top performers in the industry rise to the occasion to not only put on great matches but get the opportunity to show the wrestling world what they can do with the spotlight shining the brightest. Night one of WrestleMania was about that in many ways, for a few members of the WWE locker room. One such person was Cesaro, who earned a big win that should catapult him into a higher position on the WWE ladder.
The singles match between Seth Rollins and Cesaro was one of the most-anticipated matches at WrestleMania 37. Not because there was some major title on the line or the culmination of an important angle. Instead, this was the first time that Cesaro would perform at WrestleMania as a singles wrestler.
Cesaro has experienced a wealth of success as a tag team but has not had that same type of push as a singles competitor. Yes, he won the Andre the Giant Battle Royale back in 2014 and the United States title in 2013, but those highlights are not quickly remembered. Cesaro is respected as one of the most consistently good performers in the WWE. Fans and his peers alike have long waited for him to have a sustained push as a top singles performer. This win over Rollins is a key step in that direction.
Rollins is a bulletproof member of the upper echelon of WWE’s roster. A victory over him should catapult Cesaro into a position to become a credible contender for the WWE Universal championship. With that title set for a triple-threat title defense on Night Two of WrestleMania, there is no telling who will come out of that match with the belt around their waists. Regardless of if it is Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, or Edge, Cesaro could still be pit as a top challenger to any person with a belt around their waist.
Another road to the title would be to have Cesaro win the WWE Money in the Bank. After the fiasco of putting the briefcase on Otis in 2020, the value of that PPV was damaged. Putting the briefcase into Cesaro’s hands would immediately remedy that issue and make him an immediate threat to any champion. Plus, it would give WWE the flexibility to shift Cesaro to either of the three brands. Imagine, Cesaro versus Bobby Lashley, Reigns, or even Karrion Kross in NXT. All three of those ideas would create immediate interest.
News broke back in February that Cesaro’s contract was set to expire after WrestleMania. As the wrestling industry opens back up, more opportunities in other organizations are present for those that may be unhappy with their place in WWE. Could this be a potential explanation to this push and victory over Rollins, perhaps? But it is high time he was given the push that he deserves. This is an opportunity to shift Cesaro into the main event picture and it should happen immediately after WrestleMania.
