WWE: Top Three Moments of WrestleMania 2021
Another WrestleMania has come and gone. Like last year, it was spread over two nights. Unlike last year, there were fans in attendance (many who didn’t appear to be wearing masks, especially the group directly behind commentary yelling “Roman sucks!” at a man who missed last year’s show due to COVID, but I digress).
By many accounts, this year’s card for “The Greatest Spectacle in Sports Entertainment” was just another standard pay-per-view. The biggest match on the card wasn’t even treated like the historic moment that it was and pre-show comments by WWE Hall of Famer, JBL, made it abundantly clear that the company didn’t really care about the importance of two Black women main eventing the biggest show of the year.
There was also a huge weather delay on Night One with the first match not starting until exactly 8:45 PM. The delay did give an opportunity for many Superstars to give unscripted promos, which should prove to WWE that their talent can cut great promos that aren’t oversaturated bylines from creative.
There were some great moments over two nights, even if the first hour of Night Two was terrible and typical of current WWE booking.
Honorable mention: The Fiend paying tribute to the late, great Brodie Lee. It was a heart-warming moment from a monster.
Here are the Top 3 Moments of Night One of WrestleMania
3. Cesaro gets his Mania Moment
In his first singles match at WrestleMania, Cesaro took on Seth Rollins. “The Swiss Cyborg” got his ‘Mania Moment when he locked Rollins in to go swinging not once, but twice. The second time was for a record-breaking 23 swings. Besides the swings, he also hit the UFO before scoring the W with the Neutralizer.

2. Bad Bunny impresses the WWE Universe
We had gotten a few glimpses of what Bad Bunny could do, but nothing prepared fans for what he could actually do. Bad Bunny and Damien Priest made their debut at the “Show of Shows” against veterans Miz & Morrison. After weeks of back and forth, it was time to finally put up or shut up. Except the WWE Universe can’t shut up about the things that Bad Bunny did (and with good reason). The Grammy winner looked impressive in the ring for a celebrity with little training. It was obvious that he took his training from Drew Gulak, Adam Pearce, Norman Smiley, and The Brian Kendrick very seriously.
One of the most talked-about moments from the entire weekend was when the Puerto Rican rapper hit a CANADIAN FREAKIN’ DESTROYER. Oh yeah, he got the pin too.
1. Bianca Belair makes herstory
No matter how much WWE failed to promote the herstoric match that was happening with Bianca & Sasha, it was a HUGE deal. So huge that CNN and People covered the fact that two Black women were main eventing WrestleMania for the first time ever. It was also the first time that the SmackDown Women’s Championship was defended in the main event of the biggest show of the year.
The match was the best match of WrestleMania and is a MOTY contender. Sasha & Bianca lived up to the headline billing and then some. After the match, “The EST” celebrated with her family and her husband, Montez Ford. She then went on “The Bump” where she kept holding her new title upside down. It was an endearing moment and just cemented how elated the WWE Universe was for the bEST.

3. Logan Paul is Stunned
Conspiracy theorist Sami Zayn has been promoting his documentary for weeks. You know the one where he shows how WWE has been holding him back? For some reason, Zayn enlisted controversial YouTuber Logan Paul to help promote the said documentary. He even invited Paul to be his ringside guest for his match with Kevin Owens.
Surprisingly, the YouTuber didn’t get involved in the match. Zayn’s former best friend was the victor. After the match, Logan got in the ring to congratulate Owens. Zayn was incensed over Paul and berated him. Paul shoved Zayn down before raising KO’s hand. Owen hit Paul with a Stunner and the world rejoiced.
2. Sheamus wins the US Championship
If I’m being honest, the gif above was the best moment (IYKYK). Even more than Sheamus winning the US Championship. The “Celtic Warrior” and The “Bro” went toe-to-toe in a good matchup. The crowd was firmly behind Sheamus in his quest to dethrone Riddle.
Sheamus won in entertaining fashion–a Brogue Kick off of a springboard moonsault–which lead to a bloody Riddle.
BTW, with Riddle losing the US Championship, no WWE Superstar named in #SpeakingOut now has a title. They shouldn’t have held them in the first place, but it’s nice to see that none of them are currently being rewarded with a title (although they are rewarded by still having jobs).
1. Rhea Ripley’s Redemption
Last year at WrestleMania 36, Rhea Ripley lost her NXT Championship to Charlotte Flair. Many people were very unhappy with this decision. Fast forward a year later and Ripley made her debut on the RAW roster. On her first night, she challenged RAW Women’s Champion, Asuka to a title match at WrestleMania. It should be noted that Flair missed WrestleMania after a WWE doctor told her she was pregnant when she wasn’t.
This was the first match between these two and they had a great match. Asuka has been highly undervalued on the main roster and terribly mis-booked as RAW Women’s Champion. Most fans knew going into the match that Ripley would likely win. Despite that, the two put on a solid match with the Aussie getting her redemption by getting her WrestleMania win.
WrestleMania is usually seen as a season finale of sorts. WWE got some things right and now they need to capitalize on it (no one hold their breath). You can read what WWE got right on Night One and Night Two.
