AEW: Dynamite Preview and Predictions for April 14th, 2021
AEW Dynamite returns this Wednesday with a stacked card of exciting matches and the return of Iron Mike Tyson as he will serve as a special ringside enforcer while making his second consecutive appearance on AEW’s flagship program.
In addition to the return of Tyson, Dynamite will also feature two title matches, two very personal grudge matches, and the AEW in-ring debut of Olympic medalist Anthony Ogogo.
Let’s take a look at the announced card and what to expect from those matches.
Rey Fenix & Pac vs The Young Bucks for the AEW Tag Titles
Rey Fenix and Pac will cash in the opportunity they earned by winning the Tag Team Battle Royale at Revolution when they challenge Nick and Matt Jackson for their AEW Tag Team Titles.
The Young Bucks have a lot on their minds these days. Their relationship with longtime best friend, Kenny Omega, has been tumultuous as of late and the Bucks can’t seem to decide whether they want to punch or protect Omega on a week-to-week basis.
Even with all that on their mind it is hard to imagine the Bucks dropping the titles here. Making Pac and Fenix the tag champs would leave Penta without a place. It is more likely that a match between the Bucks and the Lucha Bros will stem from this match, possibly at Double or Nothing.
This would leave Pac open to possibly start chasing Omega’s AEW title, especially if Omega has a hand in costing Pac and Fenix this shot at gold. Winners: The Young Bucks
Anthony Ogogo debuts
While an opponent for Ogogo has not been announced yet it is very likely this will be a squash match that displays Ogogo’s boxing skills.
If this new faction, led by QT Marshall, is going to be taken seriously then it is imperative that Ogogo and Nick Comoroto are featured in matches as destroyers capable of doing damage. This is what we should see here. Winner: Anthony Ogogo
Red Velvet vs Jade Cargill
Two up-and-coming talents in the women’s division will go head to head as Red Velvet looks to avenge the loss she suffered at the hands of Jade Cargill during the mixed-tag match a number of weeks back.
Red Velvet is great. She came to AEW as enhancement talent and has worked her way into a contract by putting on consistently high-quality matches and stepping up in whatever situation has been put in front of her.
But Jade Cargill is a not-so-distant future AEW Women’s Champion. She has impressed in her limited opportunities on Dynamite thus far and Jade will be given the spotlight once again as we will begin to see her ascent up the rankings.
This will be a good match that sees Red Velvet push Jade and tell us a lot about exactly where Cargill is in her development. She has not disappointed yet, and there is no reason to think she will do so here. Winner: Jade Cargill
Dax Hardwood vs Chris Jericho
The first official match between members of the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle will take place this week as Chris Jericho goes to war with Dax Hardwood.
Iron Mike Tyson will be a special ringside enforcer during this match to make sure that it stays a one-on-one match.
Last week saw Tyson make the save for Jericho as he was receiving a brutal beatdown from members of the Pinnacle. And it is a little head-scratching as to why. Jericho and Tyson have had animosity for years and for Tyson to just come out and save Jericho just didn’t make a lot of sense.
It may have simply been a case of two competitors developing mutual respect for one another over time. But this is pro wrestling so that is the least likely of scenarios. We have seen Tyson double cross Jericho before and it seems really likely that he may do so again.
But I don’t think it happens here. At some point, members of the Pinnacle will attempt to get involved and Iron Mike will shut them down leading to a Jericho victory and the two legends celebrating their new friendship in the ring. Winner: Chris Jericho
Matt Hardy vs Darby Allin for the TNT Title
After months of not really finding his footing in AEW, Matt Hardy seems to have found a gimmick that is working as Big Money Matt has collected quite a stable of talent that he refers to as the Hardy Family Office.
Hardy will get a shot at Darby Allin’s TNT Title in a falls count anywhere match which should serve as the main event of this week’s Dynamite.
The possible interference of Private Party and Butcher and Blade make this a risky match for Allin. Luckily for him, Sting is all but guaranteed to be close by ensuring that Allin and Hardy have a fair fight.
Allin has had some title defenses where the outcome was all but certain heading into the match. He has also defended against some top-notch contenders like Brian Cage and Scorpio Sky. But he has not defended his title against anyone that has the pedigree of Matt Hardy.
While it wouldn’t be completely surprising to see Matt Hardy walk out the TNT Champion, this match should be about the continued ascent of Darby Allin. He is currently the face of TNT, and in the future, he will at some point be the face of AEW as well.
In pro wrestling, it is hard to be original. Somehow Darby Allin manages to pull it off. And in 3 or 4 years we may be talking about Darby being not only the most popular wrestler in AEW but in wrestling in general. A pinfall victory over one of his idols will help him continue on that path. Winner: Darby Allin
