Coming off another round of WWE layoff, there were a few individuals that were surprised to not see Aleister Black’s name among the lists. He has not been used by the WWE since October of 2020 and with his wife Zelina Vega being released in a controversial fashion, many were wondering about his status with the promotion. Recent rumors point to plans for Black’s eventual return.

Black’s social media features a video in where he is asking a “father” for forgiveness as highlights of his WWE run play in the background. In the end, he points out the need to “cull the herd,” before the video cuts out. This could hint towards a return to television for Black, or like many other instances of wrestlers using social media to promote ideas, it could turn out to be nothing.

However, now is the perfect time to bring Black back to WWE television. While SmackDown is having a strong run with Roman Reigns at the top of the card, both NXT and Raw could use a new name to step in as a top challenger for any of the current champions. Imagine a feud between Karrion Kross and Black for the NXT championship. Black and Bobby Lashley already have history. They battled back at WrestleMania 36 and Black needed less than eight minutes to defeat the eventual WWE champion. There’s an opportunity across the board to insert Black into situations in which he can have an immediate impact. Especially as wrestling fans continue to call for something new and engaging across WWE’s many hours of content.

Black is yet another example of a well-respected performer that gets off to a hot start in the promotion, just to be suddenly relegated to an off-camera status. After a strong run in NXT, he was moved up to the main roster where he enjoyed a lengthy undefeated streak. His run saw him defeat the Lashley, Seth Rollins and AJ Styles – very few can claim to have victories over a trio of performers that important. Then, that all came to a halt when he was involved in the horrible angle with the Rey Mysterio family, before losing to Kevin Owens multiple times. Fans wanted to see Black back on television, but that did not happen. With the way Vega left the organization, it even seemed like a matter of time before he would walk out the door as well. However, that was not the case, and it looks like there’s space to turn things around.

Next. WrestleMania proved that WWE doesn't get the love for Bayley. dark

There is no telling if or when Black will return to television. But if these vignettes point to anything, here is to hoping he is properly leveraged in the near future.
