Since signing with IMPACT Wrestling in 2020, Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo has reminded people why she’s considered one of the best technical wrestlers in the world.

Through two title reigns that have combined to last 260 days, “The Virtuosa” has fended off the likes of Jordynne Grace, Su Yung, Rosemary, Taya Valkryie, and the legendary Jazz to maintain her grip on the championship, firmly establishing her as the centerpiece star of one of the best women’s divisions in professional wrestling.

With IMPACT partnering up with All Elite Wrestling, it makes sense that Purrazzo would want to face the top women in that promotion as well.

Deonna Purrazzo on wanting to have crossover matches with AEW talent.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio on April 21, Purrazzo said this about wanting to face women from AEW (h/t to Fightful’s Jeremy Lambert for the transcription):

"“As an advocate for women’s wrestling, I want women to be part of [interpromotional matches]. Wrestling isn’t the boys club anymore. I want our Knockouts Championship to be defended all over the world. I know that whoever is part of the AEW women’s division and Tony Khan want their championship to be held in the same contention. If we can have Kenny [Omega] vs. Rich [Swann], champion vs. champion, why can’t we have Deonna vs. [AEW Women’s World CHampion Hikaru] Shida? Our division is continuously growing and is one of the best in the world. Their division, in the same light, is continuously growing and becoming one of the best in the world. There is no lose-lose, no matter what the match is.”"

As of April 25, no one from AEW’s women’s division has crossed over to face anyone from Impact on AEW: DynamiteIMPACT! Wrestling, or any of either company’s pay-per-views. AEW has staged title matches with other promotion’s women’s championships, with the NWA World Women’s Championship being defended multiple times on AEW shows.

Purrazzo will next defend her championship at tonight’s Rebellion show against Tenille Dashwood in a rare heel vs. heel match.

Next. Has the AEW-Impact partnership lived up to its potential?. dark
