Kenny Omega: Three men that could stop the Belt Collector
The belt collector has done it again. At Impact Rebellion, Kenny Omega defeated Rich Swann to capture the Impact and TNA World Titles. Now, with both the AEW championship and AAA belts around his waist, Omega is fulfilling the prophecy that he set forth at the end of 2020. The forbidden door is open and there is no telling where this storyline of Omega capturing all these titles will lead. Perhaps, he will find himself standing across from these three men, each of whom could take those belts right out of his grasp.
Chris Bey
Impact needs an avenger. The entire locker room got behind Swann before his match with Omega and he came up short. Leading into the PPV, many felt that Impact was getting the short end of the booking stick, as the promotion was barely mentioned on AEW television. Someone is going to have to defeat Omega to get that title back on Impact and that person needs to be Chris Bey.
When looking at the entire Impact roster, Bey is one of the few individuals that feel like a star. He is on the cusp of a breakthrough and defeating Omega is the way to push him over the edge. Allowing him and Omega to work a full angle that leads to Bey getting the clean victory is the exact type of rub both he and Impact need. Someone is going to have to stand up to Omega from Impact and Chris Bey is ready to make the call.
Adam Page
The slow build between Adam Page and Kenny Omega has been enjoyable to watch. Almost every week, there are a few breadcrumbs left behind that push their eventual storyline further. AEW is not rushing into what will be a big moment for the promotion – this is exactly how pro wrestling storytelling should be done. With that said, Page is another strong candidate to take one of those titles off Omega’s waist.
The story between Page and Omega is going to be one that could last more than a year. In many ways, this could be AEW’s version of The Rock versus Stone Cold Steve Austin or Hollywood Hulk Hogan versus Sting. The promotion has shown they are willing to work their angles in a way to give fans what they want while making things make sense. Expect a situation where Page and Omega are soon at odds, with the AEW title in the center.
Kota Ibushi
Omega and Kota Ibushi have a storied history. Known as the Golden Lovers, they captured tag team gold together, but just a few months ago, Omega was making it clear that Ibushi was in his sights when he was champion in New Japan. Ibushi has since dropped that title to Will Ospreay. His future is not quite as clear, as many were expecting him to have a long run as champion. But that did not happen, so perhaps this opens the door for Ibushi to appear in All Elite Wrestling.
The door has already been opened by KENTA, who chased after Jon Moxley and the NJPW United States title. KENTA came up short, but his appearance makes people wonder if Ibushi could be a sudden surprise. Imagine a situation where Ibushi stepped into AEW with the intention of confronting Omega, leading to the singles match that would set the wrestling industry ablaze. The COVID-19 global pandemic still has the world in its grip, as Japan even put new restrictions in place. But rest assured, Ibushi is at the front of everyone’s mind as a potential name that could stand across from Omega in the future.
Kenny Omega’s 2021 run is going to be a historical ride for the wrestling industry. No one knows where it may end by the time it’s all over, but any situation where Omega competes against any of these three men is a win for the fans and everyone involved.
