AEW: Which title should Kenny Omega go after next
On Sunday, Kenny Omega secured his third world championship when he defeated Impact Wrestling world heavyweight champion Rich Swann in the main event of Impact Rebellion. The relationship between AEW and Impact wrestling has finally gotten interesting after months of the fans wondering what big angle would come from this partnership.
Omega fulfilled his promise when he first appeared in Impact that he would become the collector of world titles. The historic win from Sunday was five months in the making which is good storytelling in professional wrestling. The Best Bout Machine is on his way to becoming the 2021 pro wrestler of the year. In this article, I will be discussing which title Omega should go after next.
The Forbidden Door has been kicked open by Kenny Omega, winning the Impact wrestling world title. Over the last couple of months, we have seen NWA, New Japan, and Impact wrestlers appear on AEW. AEW is doing something that wrestling fans use to dream of happening in the 90s when WCW and WWE were going to war with each other. With AEW willing to work with other promotions, we are given a chance to see dream matches that fans have wanted to see for years.
The next title that Kenny Omega should go after is the NWA World Heavyweight championship. The NWA World Heavyweight Championship is one of the most essential belts in professional wrestling history. Today, it is the only World title that its lineage can be traced back to the very first world champ in professional in 1905.
In the early years, the NWA World Heavyweight Champion would travel to each territory and defend the title against the territory’s top contenders or champion. In his second reign as NWA Champion, the current champion Nick Aldis has been champion since October 21, 2018, when he beat Cody Rhodes for the title. Nick has done a fantastic job defending the world title and making the belt mean something again to the world of professional wrestling.
The NWA took a huge hit to its roster because of Covid-19, and with that Aldis was left with wrestlers who aren’t seen as a threat to his world title. Kenny Omega would be the perfect person to challenge Nick for the NWA title because it would bring eyes to the NWA, and it would put the NWA World title in its first massive program since TNA /Impact wrestling cut ties with the NWA in the 2000s.
When Kenny defeated Jon Moxley at AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming, fans knew that Kenny’s title run was going to be special, but who would have thought that we would be seeing him as Impact wrestling world champion as well. Nick Aldis is a former Impact Wrestling world champion, and he could appear on AEW Dynamite and say how he wants to become Impact champion again and how he wants the AEW world title on his shoulder. Nick and Omega is a match that AEW and NWA can build as a Wrestlemania level match at a special event.
The Kenny Omega collector storyline has become one of the most exciting storylines in professional wrestling in the last decade. It would be wise for AEW to keep working with other companies to give the fans dream matches and prove that their world champion is the best. Kenny Omega appearing in ROH, MLW, and NJPW would create some good moments, but I believe Omega’s next stop should be in the NWA for the NWA World Heavyweight championship because of the history that comes with winning that world title.
