AEW Dynamite: Blood and Guts Preview and Predictions
AEW Dynamite is back this Wednesday with their Blood and Guts edition. This episode of Dynamite will feature some of the most heated rivalries going in AEW today, culminating with the first-ever AEW Blood and Guts match between the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle.
Also announced for this week’s episode is Miro speaking. Miro will most likely use this time to explain why he attacked Kip Sabian last week and to announce his intentions to go after titles in AEW. My hope is that the shot Sabian took to his arm last week will result in Sabian being “injured” and out of action for a few weeks. This will free Miro up to call out the TNT Champion, Darby Allin, and this will start a build to a title match at Double or Nothing between the two.
Let’s take a look at the announced matches for the Blood and Guts episode of Dynamite and what to expect from each.
Jurassic Express vs SCU vs The Acclaimed vs The Varsity Blonds
The top four ranked tag teams in AEW will square off in what is being billed as a 4-way tag team eliminator match, with the winners getting an AEW Tag Team Championship match next week versus the Young Bucks.
This match holds intrigue for a couple of reasons. Every tag team match that SCU competes in could be their last, as they have announced that the next time they lose a match they will no longer compete as a team.
Jurassic Express has been a wildly popular team in their time in AEW and Jungle Boy continues to evolve with each and every match. It is just a matter of time before he has gold around his waist, and it makes sense that his first AEW title would be of the tag team variety.
The Acclaimed and the Varsity Blonds are both young, energetic tag teams with limitless potential. Both teams were put together months ago and have continued to improve their cohesion on a regular basis.
But the bottom line of this match is that a 4-way tag team eliminator match is no way to break up the team of SCU. It would be a much more effective story to have SCU win this contest and then let the Young Bucks use questionable tactics to end the partnership of Daniels and Kazarian for good next week.
Christopher Daniels can work behind the scenes more, Frankie Kazarian can start out on a singles run and put on great matches like the one we saw between him and Christian Cage recently. And the Young Bucks can continue to add heat to their surprisingly excellent heel run by breaking up the veteran team of SCU. Winners: SCU
Dr. Britt Baker in Action
In what should be a short squash match Britt Baker will take on an opponent who has not yet been announced. The post-match antics will most likely be more interesting than the match itself. Baker will continue to harp on the fact that she is now the number one contender for Hikaru Shida’s AEW Women’s Title and this may be the week that Shida responds face-to-face, setting up a title match at Double or Nothing. Winner: Britt Baker
Cody Rhodes vs QT Marshall
Cody Rhodes made his return last week and proceeded to take it to his old friend, QT Marshall.
To be honest, I am pleasantly surprised that this match is taking place now and not being put on the Double or Nothing pay-per-view. That doesn’t mean that we won’t get some kind of Nightmare Family vs The Factory match at Double or Nothing, but if we do it will hopefully involve some of the young talents that each group boasts.
Even with the sure interference that will happen from The Factory, I just can’t see QT winning this match. Cody will pick up the win and the feud between the two units will continue, more than likely with some more surprising twists and turns happening over the next few weeks. Winner: Cody Rhodes
Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston vs Kenny Omega and MT Nakazawa
Poor Michael Nakazawa. He is walking into this match to take some brutal punishment from two angry men in Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. Kenny Omega has absolutely no intention of getting in the ring with either one of these men and MT Nakazawa will be the one that pays for it. This should be a short match that sees Omega do nothing but spectate but it will also move the story along for Omega and Kingston to clash one-on-one for the AEW Championship at Double or Nothing. Winners: Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston
The Inner Circle vs The Pinnacle
A little over a year after the first Blood and Guts match was scheduled to take place, AEW will get to showcase ten of its top talents in a War Games-like environment.
The Inner Circle started off really hot in AEW. Chris Jericho was the first-ever AEW Champion and he had built a team of killers around him to help protect that title run. Since losing the title to Jon Moxley at Revolution in 2020, the Inner Circle just hasn’t quite been the same.
Santana and Ortiz consistently find themselves out of the top 5 rankings in the tag team division. Sammy Guevara has been better known for mistakes he has made with his mouth and botches in matches than for signature victories. Chris Jericho has spent more time putting over younger talent such as MJF and Orange Cassidy than he has being a serious threat to any title.
All that being said, this feud with the Pinnacle seems to have brought that fire back into the Inner Circle. The Inner Circle as a unit has cut some great promos over the past couple of weeks and what was a stale act a little over a month ago seems to be back on the path to being major players in AEW.
And while it is pretty much a guarantee that MJF will have something up his sleeve to create an advantage in this match for the Pinnacle, this is more about re-establishing the Inner Circle as an unstoppable unit.
Jericho will make MJF quit in the middle of the ring and the Inner Circle will be victorious in the first-ever Blood and Guts match. Winners: The Inner Circle
