WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021! The WWE has decided to book this PPV as a lackadaisical rehash of WrestleMania 37. The following will provide full match card and result predictions for all of the officially announced matches as well as any other matches that could be added to the match card on the go-home week. According to WWE’s official website, the WWE has officially announced two Raw matches and three SmackDown matches for the PPV.

The two official WWE Raw matches are Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Braun Strowman for the WWE Championship, and Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair for the Raw Women’s Championship. There will be two more potential matches added from Raw’s go-home show this week: Sheamus (c) vs. Humberto Carillo for the United States Championship, and AJ Styles & Omos (c) vs. RK-Bro for the Raw Tag Team Championships.

The three official WWE SmackDown matches are Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cesaro for the Universal Title, Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Title, and Dirty Dawgs (c) vs. Mysterios for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. There will be one more potential match added from SmackDown’s go-home show this week: Apollo Crews (c) vs. Big E vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn in a fatal four-way match for the Intercontinental Title.

Our Dorathy Gass listed and expounded on the five greatest matches of all time in Backlash history. It will be intriguing to see which matches at this year’s PPV make that list. The WWE has a proclivity to book and advertise Backlash as if it’s a B-level PPV, but there are a plenitude of matches and moments in the history of this PPV that has been memorable. Notwithstanding the contrived storylines, the potential show-stealing matches should not be overlooked.

With that being said, it’s now time to preview and predict the matches and storylines that will occur at WrestleMania Backlash 2021.

WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021 is scheduled to take place on May 16, 2021, live on the WWE Network via Peacock. Here are some foolproof predictions.

Dirty Dawgs (c) vs. Mysterios [SmackDown Tag Team Championships]

Rey and Dominik Mysterio should have won the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 37 in front of the fans for a heartwarming “father and son” WrestleMania moment. Unfortunately, their title match was relegated to a special edition of “WrestleMania SmackDown.” Clearly, this was a misnomer for what was a very watered-down pre-show. It was basically the appetizer before the full course meal, and Mysterios’ title match had no business being on that show.

Nonetheless, the Mysterios have another title opportunity at WrestleMania Backlash. They will evidently have their “father and son” moment in the ThunderDome by dethroning Dirty Dawgs because there is no legitimate reason to keep the titles on Ziggler and Roode any longer. Not only is this a downgrade to winning the titles at WrestleMania 37 but it is also foreseeable that they will have a brief reign afterward because the reunited Usos have already planted the seeds for picking up the gold very soon.

Foolproof Prediction: Mysterios

AJ Styles & Omos (c) vs. RK-Bro [Raw Tag Team Championships]

When AJ Styles and Omos became the Raw Tag Team Champs, it was a great moment. Many fans were impressed with their performance and expected them to hold the tag titles for a very long time in what is an uneven Raw Tag Team Division. However, their momentum has already diminished for three reasons: They were absent for the first three weeks of their reign, their in-ring hot tag formula is constricted and repetitive, and RK-Bro became a popular tag team.

As for the third reason, Randy Orton and Riddle did become a popular tag team during AJ Styles and Omos’ absence. Orton’s apprehensive yet calculated mannerisms and responses while interacting with Riddle’s goofy personality have really made this team worthwhile. They have become so popular to the point that it would be tortious not to book them as the Raw Tag Team Champions right now. The only caveat is if Orton turns on Riddle before they even win the titles.

Although the idea of putting Randy Orton on a scooter is not advisable, putting a championship around his waist for his impeccable work on Raw is definitely welcome and quite frankly inevitable. As for their reign, it will be as brief as the majority of Orton’s WWE Title reigns because the main goal of this tag team seems to be a conduit towards a feud between Orton and Riddle that will result in elevating a rising star in Riddle as a future main eventer on Raw.

Foolproof Prediction: RK-Bro
