Brian Cage will reach the AEW main event title picture in time
All Elite Wrestling continues to excel in how the promotion tells stories and builds up performers across the roster. Kenny Omega stands firm at the top with the AEW title and multiple others around his waist. It seems like the long-term angle will pit him and Adam Page against each other in the future. But there is one man who could find his way into the main event as a top babyface and that is Brian Cage.
Currently, Cage is a member of Team Taz, where he continues to look fantastic as a part of that stable. Everyone remembers the visual of him holding Darby Allin in a vertical suplex while walking up the stairs during tag team street fight back at AEW Revolution. Everything about Cage looks the part and right now he is serving his role well as the muscle in a heel faction. He picked up a big win over Page last week, who at the time was the top-ranked male wrestler on the roster.
But there is going to be a time when Cage breaks away from the group. A few hints have dropped about a potential split. As with everything within AEW, this story is taking is being slow built, but any wrestling fan familiar with the product should expect a split to come. Cage going against the likes of both Ricky Starks and Will Hobbs, with Taz on the microphone will help elevate everyone over time. Plus, with that FTW title around Cage’s waist, there is something of value for them to fight over.
However, Cage’s story does not end there. He could be a great foil to compete against Cage and the other members of the Elite for an extended time. Omega is moving on from Jon Moxley and early betting is on Orange Cassidy to be the next in line. As over Cassidy is with fans, do not expect him to take that title off the Belt Collector’s waist. In fact, it is hard to see any individual in Impact, AEW, or AAA taking any of the belts from Omega soon. Cage looks the part as a viable threat to Omega, especially if he is booked to tear through the rest of the members of the Elite before getting his hands on Omega.
When Cage won the Casino Ladder Match back in May of 2020, he was vaulted into the title picture against Moxley. Just like the other names that were brought over at the time, they all fell to Moxley who was very well booked as champion. Cage was not pinned or submitted, as Taz threw in the towel for Cage to “save” him from injury. That right there is the story to start off Cage’s run as a singles competitor, looking to get back into the main event scene. It does not need to be a rush, but the long-term booking is there to build to an opportunity that can be months down the line.
Everything about Brian Cage looks like someone that would be a star in a major wrestling organization. There are some parts that can be smoothed out, but AEW has shown they can help competitors turn an important corner. Expect to see Cage in the main event title picture by the end of 2021.
