AEW: Five Wrestlers/Teams That Will Be Champions In The Next Year
Santana and Ortiz
The duo, also known as “Proud and Powerful”, has been an integral part of AEW since the promotion’s inception.
They have been part of some of the most memorable matches in the short history of AEW. The street fight they had with Best Friends was absolutely fantastic and the Stadium Stampede match was a lot of fun with some great spots.
Yet the tag team titles have eluded this talented duo for far too long. This is partly because they are part of the Inner Circle and have spent a good chunk of time feuding with other factions, such as the Pinnacle and the Elite.
Santana and Ortiz have been patient and have stuck by Jericho and focused on Inner Circle business far more than they have their own goals, so much so that they watched MJF and Chris Jericho get an AEW Tag Team Title shot against the Young Bucks a few months back.
But the time has come to give these talented workhorses their time in the spotlight.
As much as we all love the team of Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley, the Young Bucks need to retain their titles against them at Double or Nothing. The tag team titles were held for a very long time by two singles wrestlers already, and there are too many talented tag teams in AEW to have that happen again.
As the Young Bucks grow cockier with each successful title defense, in large part due to the strength they have in numbers, it will become obvious that the team that will be able to knock them off will have to have similar numbers to neutralize Omega, Callis, and the Good Brothers.
Enter Santana and Ortiz and the Inner Circle. It won’t be long before some of New York’s finest are on top of the tag team division.
