AEW: Five Wrestlers/Teams That Will Be Champions In The Next Year
Orange Cassidy
On Wednesday, we saw a brand new TNT Champion crowned when Miro defeated Darby Allin in a very good match. And if the post-match antics are any indication, it appears that Miro’s first challenger for his newly won gold is going to come in the form of Lance Archer.
Miro will inevitably find a way to beat Archer and many, many others on his way to a lengthy title run. But all good things come to an end at some point. And when Miro’s time as TNT Champion is up, he will lose that title to Orange Cassidy in front of a raucous, sold-out crowd.
Orange Cassidy is someone who is very rare in professional wrestling. He is original and one-of-a-kind; there is no one else like him in any brand. Because of that, he has the ability to mesmerize a fan base like few others.
OC has had some TNT title opportunities in the past. On May 30, he will have an opportunity to win the AEW World Championship when he is part of a triple threat match with Pac and current champion Kenny Omega at Double or Nothing.
Omega should retain his title in that match. Following that, it is anyone’s guess who Orange Cassidy’s next feud will be with.
That said, AEW does a great job of long-term storytelling. For instance, when Miro first came to AEW, he and Kip Sabian had quite a feud with Best Friends. But one thing we did not see stem from that feud was a one-on-one match between Miro and Cassidy.
My guess is Tony Khan kept that match in his pocket to use down the line for the TNT Title. And now that AEW has announced that they are having their next pay-per-view event at a full capacity venue it makes sense that each pay-per-view going forward will be held at full capacity as well.
At one of those future cards, one of the most popular and unconventional wrestlers that we have seen in recent history will earn a monumental win, his first AEW title, and a deafening pop as AEW brings the story full circle and crowns Orange Cassidy as the next TNT Champion.
