AEW: Five Wrestlers/Teams That Will Be Champions In The Next Year
“Hangman” Adam Page
Ever since Kenny Omega rejected “Hangman” Adam Page’s request to remain a tag team, Page has been a bit of a lost soul.
Omega has gone on to win the AEW World Championship and Page has drifted in and out of less meaningful storylines.
It looked like Page and Omega might be on a collision course at Double or Nothing, as “Hangman” was the number one ranked contender for Omega’s title.
But as AEW often does, they surprised us by having Brian Cage pull off a mini-upset of Page a couple of weeks ago on Dynamite.
This was a brilliant result for a couple of reasons. First, Team Taz as a whole has had no momentum recently, losing feud after feud, so Cage’s win restored some credibility to the talented group.
Secondly, when Page challenges Omega for the title, Page needs to win it. Hangman’s story is one of retribution. After being burned by his former tag team partner the year-plus long story needs to be paid off with Page overcoming the odds and dethroning Kenny Omega.
That was not going to happen on May 30.
Page will float in and out of storylines over the next few months. He will have some laughs with his buddies in the Dark Order. We may even see him feud with MJF, Wardlow, Ethan Page, or Scorpio Sky over the coming months.
But rest assured, it is all leading back to Omega.
Don’t forget that Page was in the match with Chris Jericho to determine the first-ever AEW World Champion, so the company has been high on him from the start. At some point this year, it will start to build him back up to the number one contender for Omega’s title.
When it does, Page will turn the months and months of rejections, aimlessness, and despair into the greatest night of his professional life when he beats Kenny Omega for the AEW Championship.
