WWE: The time is right for John Morrison vs The Miz
Partnerships, whether through factions or tag teams are an important part of the industry. It is an opportunity to see talent develop together, get over with the crowd, and hopefully point out new stars. However, everyone knows that the breakup angle is coming. The same could be said for John Morrison and The Miz. After a few hints in recent weeks, it is time to pull the plug on this duo.
When John Morrison returned to the WWE in 2019, the company may have dropped the ball with how it was announced, but fans were still interested in what was next for him. Morrison had strong success during his initial run in the WWE and grew that exponentially in other organizations such as Impact, AAA, Lucha Underground, and others.
At 41-years of age, Morrison is in fantastic shape and can still compete with the best names in the industry. While he has been frequently featured since his return, he has been slotted as the second to The Miz, leaving fans wanting to see more. With Maryse’s return to television to promote the upcoming season of The Miz & Mrs. Show, there were subtle drops of a split between the two. Then, the Miz began to cost Morrison matches against Damian Priest – setting off the saying “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” The Miz is battling Priest in a lumberjack match at WrestleMania Backlash, so expect some shenanigans to go down, specifically between Miz and Morrison.
When this feud breaks out, let us be clear on one thing: Morrison must go over. The Miz has had his moments in the spotlight, especially recently with a brief WWE championship run. While the Miz is an accomplished individual and can work his character very well, fans are exhausted of seeing him in prominent positions. There is a host of other individuals who could use television and content time. The Miz does not need more, nor does he need to pick up a feud victory over Morrison. That does not mean Morrison is a fresh face in any way but focusing on him as a singles competitor does create an opportunity for new matches and angles down the line.
WWE viewers are begging the creative leadership to put something different and compelling on television. Each week is more of the same, making the shows unimportant to weekly viewing. To change that new feuds, angles, and elevating performers is a step in the right direction. Removing John Morrison from The Miz is a step that would help, even if he is not the freshest face around. The breakup between The Miz and John Morrison must occur sooner, rather than later.
