Davey Richards Signs with MLW | MLW Open Draft Round 1 Results

Round One of the Major League Wrestling (MLW) Open Draft was held on Thursday, May 20, 2021, and they announced important information regarding some of the talents that will remain involved with the company and a new signing in the form of former Ring of Honor World Champion, Davey Richards.

Here are the Draft Picks:

• The Von Erichs (Ross Von Erich and Marshall Von Erich) will stay in MLW
• Gino Medina will stay in MLW
• King Muertes signs with Azteca Underground
• Davey Richards signs with MLW

As part of the open draft, MLW also announced the signing of Davey Richards.

Speaking with Alicia Atout, the former ROH World Champion and IMPACT Tag Team Champion revealed that he signed with the company months ago and that he received offers from multiple companies.

"“It was very organic. I’m very blessed that, once I announced I was returning to Professional Wrestling, I had a lot of offers from a lot of different companies. Everyone had their strengths and MLW just really stuck out to me as being more aligned with what I feel Professional Wrestling is, which is sport-oriented. The best athletes compete in MLW and, overall, it is a competition here. Everyone wants to be the best, it is the Major Leagues. It was very organic and we were made for each other. It’s either going to be a love story or a horror story but, either way, it’s going to be entertaining.”"

Prior to 2021, Richards had not been active in wrestling since 2017, as he took a hiatus from the business to complete his studies to become a doctor. Richards had been announced to wrestle with Global Syndicate Wrestling on May 22 prior to his signing. He will be performing on June 10 with MLW in Philadelphia.
