Major news broke on Thursday evening that the WWE had come to terms with the release of Velveteen Dream. This was done quietly but a report from Fightful Select broke the news that the Washington DC native was no longer with the promotion, ending his very controversial tenure with the promotion.

Dream, real name Patrick Clark Jr, had his last match with the promotion back in December of 2020, losing a match to Adam Cole. He was hardly used in any fashion on NXT television, with very few questions about him going answered.

Dream had quickly become one of the most despised individuals in the professional wrestling industry when news broke about him earlier that year when multiple accusations were made in April and June that he was sending indecent pictures to underage children. While no legal charges were officially made, WWE did comment that the promotion investigated the allegations but did not find anything.

Dream would change his Twitter handle name to “Is Velveteen Dream Fired?” and then send out a tweet “Lol Yes.” His Twitter thread also included a number of other posts about the situation as the news changed.

With this release, Dream has a thirty-day, non-compete clause. As of this report, the release has not been made official by the WWE. This came during another week in which the promotion made a round of cuts across their roster, including releasing another very controversial individual in Drake Wuertz.
