Tom Phillips has been released by the WWE.

Initially reported by Fightful Select. Tom Phillips has been released by the WWE. The 32-year-old commentator most recently worked as the play-by-play commentator on Monday Night RAW before being replaced by Adnan Virk following WrestleMania. He had not appeared on WWE television since that move had been made.

He signed with the WWE in 2012 and worked as the play-by-play announcer for several of their products over his career. Most notably as the voice of Monday Night RAW and the initial voice for NXT UK.

At press time details are scarce regarding if his release was requested or if he was an unnamed member of the roster who was released last week among those NXT releases. This comes at a time where multiple individuals were released from the WWE, both on-camera talent and behind-the-scenes professionals as well.

Philips filled a very specific role in his time with the WWE namely as a transitional voice for a brand. He was play-by-play for NXT until being replaced by Mauro Ranallo, was play-by-play for SmackDown until being replaced by Michael Cole, and was play-by-play for RAW until being replaced by Adnan Virk. Virk and the WWE parted ways earlier this week in a move that was not a surprise to many. Virk has been replaced by famed combat sports personality, Jimmy Smith.

At press time his release from the company has not been confirmed by WWE. For more news and opinion about the WWE and professional wrestling as a whole, stick to Daily DDT.
