MLW Open Draft Round Two: Alex Kane signs, Lawlor stays
By Luis Pulido
The second round of Major League Wrestling’s (MLW) Open Draft resumed on Thursday, May 27, and it revealed the future of some of the talent involved, the signing of Atlanta indy wrestler Alex Kane, and an update on Tom Lawlor.
After the announcement of the signing of Davey Richards during Round One of MLW’s Open Draft, interest picked up over which names from other feds would sign with the promotion and which MLW roster members were going to stay. The second round was hosted, once again, by Alicia Atout, and it revealed the future of some of the talents on the MLW roster.
Here are the MLW second-round draft picks:
Gringo Loco stays MLW
King Mo stays in MLW, remains a member of the American Top Team
Tom Lawlor stays in MLW, remains a member of Team Filthy
Alex Kane signs with MLW and joins as a member of the American Top Team
Alex Kane’s MLW debut was announced for the company’s July 10 show in Philadelphia, although his opponent is yet to be announced. He made his debut in 2018 against AR Fox and has been taking bookings in the independent scene.
Tom Lawlor wrestled his latest match with the promotion on Fusion 130, where he beat Marshall Von Erich in the main event. Since that match, he has primarily worked in New Japan Pro-Wrestling on their weekly NJPW Strong show, where he is the current and inaugural Strong Openweight Champion. He is set to defend the title on the next episode of NJPW Strong on Friday, May 28, against Chris Dickinson.
The company will return on July 10 in Philadelphia at the old ECW Arena, which will include the debuting Azteca Underground. As of yet, no matches have been announced for the show.
