Mark Henry makes his AEW debut during Double or Nothing

Not only did Lio Rush make his AEW debut at Double or Nothing, but former WWE Heavyweight champion Mark Henry was announced as the newest signing as both the analyst for AEW Rampage and as a coach for the promotion.

Henry was a big surprise on the show and was welcomed by a large cheer from the fans. The last time Henry was on WWE television was during the Monday Night Raw Legends’ Night special. Within the WWE, Henry held three titles including the Heavyweight title in 2011, the ECW title in 2008, and the European championship in 1999.

This was a surprising move by AEW to bring in Henry. Henry was hinted at being one of the signees to come over to AEW earlier in the year, but that individual turned out to be Christian Cage. This also comes at a time in which Henry was talking about preparing for one last in-ring run at 49-years of age.

The last singles match Henry performed was against Braun Strowman back in 2017 on Monday Night Raw. Since then, he appeared in an Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33 and the Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018.

AEW Rampage is the newly announced show that will air on TNT starting on August 13. Henry will serve in the on-air analyst role much like Paul Wight does for AEW Dark Elevation. Tony Schiavone welcomed Henry into AEW and said his first words within the promotion will come on the upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite.
