Sting says he’s never been in a more supportive promotion than AEW
With a Hall of Fame career that has spanned through five different decades and has included stays in WCW, TNA/Impact Wrestling, and WWE, Sting has now found a home with All Elite Wrestling.
Much like Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts, AEW brought Sting in to lend his considerable credibility to the younger members of the nascent promotion’s roster, specifically former TNT Champion Darby Allin, a pairing that benefitted the ascending star.
The fit with AEW has been a pretty snug one for “The Icon” as well, according to the man himself.
Sting talks about how supportive AEW is as an organization.
In an interview with Paste Magazine, this is what Sting said about the tight-knight nature the company has exhibited thus far (h/t to Fightful’s Robert DeFelice for the transcription):
"“It is a place where you’ve got a bunch of male and female soldiers all sort of marching in the same direction, and pretty much everybody’s marching to the same beat. There isn’t really any factions or cliques or groups of people. Everybody is looking out for everybody and everybody wants AEW to succeed. Everybody wants… they’re really involved with other matches. They’re watching, and somebody will finish a great match, and they’ll walk back out and you’ll hear the entire locker room area clapping and applauding. I think there’s a great unity, really, to be honest with you, with most everybody there in AEW. Something that I’ve never experienced.”"
Sting debuted on the December 2, 2020, episode of AEW: Dynamite — titled Winter is Coming — when he saved Darby Allin and Cody Rhodes from an attack from Team Taz. He would later align himself with Allin, eventually teaming with his protege against Brian Cage and Ricky Starks in a pre-taped Street Fight at Revolution. It was his first match since his WWE Championship match against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions in 2016.
Sting will have his first live match at Double or Nothing, where he will once again link up with Allin, but this time, they will face Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky.
