WWE: Brock Lesnar can fit into the main event picture on both Raw and SmackDown
By Amit Shukla
Expect to see Brock Lesnar back on WWE television soon. The growing rumor is that Lesnar will be a part of SummerSlam in order to draw fans back to a big in-person event. His profile moved from the Alumni section to the active superstar’s list, and his name came up during Drew McIntyre and Kofi Kingston segment on Raw. It was the first time his name is on WWE TV since WrestleMania 36.
WWE doesn’t use a superstar’s name until they have them signed with the promotion. He could return as a surprise during WWE Hell In A Cell, and while everyone wants him to go after Bobby Lashley, a feud with Roman Reigns is not off the cards. Bobby Lashley vs Brock Lesnar is a dream feud. This is the exact type of match that can headline one of the big four annual shows like SummerSlam, and now is the best time to do so.
WWE could also use this match to build the Road to WrestleMania with two powerhouses exchanging punches, which would entice fans for the match and the event. A major title match like that could help bring fans back into a full house as interest in the product wains. Brock Lesnar is the Box-Office Attraction, and with him and the current WWE Champion fighting for or without the title on the line, this is the type of match that will get wrestling fans involved and perhaps those interested in mixed martial arts as well.
WWE Raw has suffered in terms of ratings, with the show receiving historically low ratings frequently. Fans may pass the buck to NBA and NHL games, but the product has not been good for a very long time. WWE needs to up their performance on the weekly program, and booking Lesnar back into the main event scene has proven to draw in fans in the past.
His former advocate Paul Heyman now serves as the Special Counsel for Reigns. Roman has perhaps surpassed Lesnar as a top heel with Heyman by his side. And there’s still the question about who Heyman would side with if they faced off. Lesnar and Reigns are no strangers to each other as they have fought on various occasions. The changing of their roles in this situation would give this feud a fresh coat of paint.
A potential feud between Lesnar and Reigns can also carry an important show like SummerSlam or even get pushed out to WrestleMania next year. The questions really stand around how well the people involved can be booked because WWE has not shown a commitment to doing effective booking for an extended period of time. Either way, as the rumors continue to grow about Lesnar being added back to the main roster, there’s a place where he can do so on either Raw or SmackDown.
