By Luis Pulido
The fourth round of Major League Wrestling’s Open Draft went underway and it provided updates on the futures of contracted talent and the immense announcement of the return of the 40-Man Battle Riot with its first entrant.
After the company announced the Lee Moriarty and Aramis signings, fans hoped that Round 4 would produce something just as newsworthy. Fortunately, MLW followed up with two huge announcements during this round.
Here are the Round 4 picks for the MLW Open Draft and the announcement.
Calvin Tankman stays with MLW
Mads Krugger stays in MLW
Arez signs with Azteca Underground
Arez previously wrestled in MLW last year, where he challenged and lost to Myron Reed for the MLW Cruiserweight Championship, but he has been active in Mexican company AAA.
It was also announced by Alicia Atout that MLW’s first show of the season will host Battle Riot III. In this year’s iteration, the winner will become the number one contender for the MLW World Heavyweight, currently held by Jacob Fatu, and will have the ability to challenge the champion at any point the winner wishes. The last time a Battle Riot match was held was on April 5, 2019, which was won by L.A. Park.
It was also revealed that current MLW National Openweight Champion, Alexander Hammerstone, will be the first official entrant to the Battle Riot. Hammerstone is looking to become MLW’s first-ever Double Champion, and it was revealed by Alicia Atout that the only way to challenge Fatu was to win the Battle Riot. So far, Hammerstone is the only entrant announced for Battle Riot III, but more wrestlers could be announced within the weeks prior to MLW’s first show with fans on July 10 in Philadelphia.
