WWE: Tony Nese, Tyler Breeze, Fandango, Kenice Mobley, and others released
WWE is continuing to make cuts to the roster. This round saw multiple wrestlers from 205 Live and NXT get released, along with WWE Monday Night Raw writer, Kenice Mobley. Additional news about these cuts includes Nick Khan leading the meeting to make these cuts with some names being “saved” due to varying reasons.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful broke the news on Friday about the releases. Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari, Ever-Rise, Fandango, August Grey, Tyler Breeze, Bollywood Boyz, Arturo Ruas, Curt Stallion, Killian Dain, and Marina Shafir were the names revealed by the time of this report on Friday. PWI Insider also revealed some of the breaking news about the released performers.
Each one of these names comes at a different level of utilization on WWE television. For example, Ever-Rise (Chase Parker and Matt Martel) were on this week’s edition of WWE NXT where they were involved in an ongoing feud with Hit Row. Many of these individuals also performed on either NXT or 205 Live in June. But some names like Ruas and Stallion had not wrestled since 2020.
Mobley’s name was recently in headlines due to her appearance on the podcast “Asian Not Asian” where she talked about her lack of WWE knowledge before being signed to write for the promotion, and that the promotion was aware that she did not know much of the brand. The stand-up comedian came under fire from wrestling fans and pundits for her words and the news of them breaking on Thursday before her release on Friday.
There was an interesting quote that Sapp tweeted as well and followed up on with an additional Fightful Select report.
“We were told that Nick Khan specifically is willing to take the heat and did not seem concerned about prior plans, projects, who the person or married to, how long they’ve been signed, or what they have going on.”
It will be interesting to see how these releases play out within the overall WWE product in the future. There has been speculation from some wrestling media personalities about a potential sale, while others are more skeptical on that idea.
According to reports, some of these individuals have varying lengths of non-compete clauses. For example, Nese’s clause is 90-days while Grey’s is 30.
