After Bianca Belair defeated longtime nemesis Bayley to retain her SmackDown Women’s Championship inside Hell in a Cell, you would think that both would move on to new opponents.

Unfortunately, they work for WWE, where feuds are seemingly required to last at least a month longer than they need to.

The two renewed hostilities on this past Friday’s episode of SmackDown, with Belair teaming with Cesaro to face Bayley and Seth Rollins. As you likely guessed based on how this piece started, the match ended with Bayley pinning “The EST” after hitting her with the Rose Plant.

That finish combined with Rollins and Bayley dismissing Belair’s win over Bayley at Hell in a Cell as a “fluke” prior to the mixed tag match indicates that WWE will likely script these two to wrestle again at Money in the Bank.

Has the Bayley/Bianca Belair program gone on too long?

While these two will doubtlessly another excellent match at Money in the Bank and despite how fun it will be to see them have this match in front of fans, this is another case of WWE continuing with a story that has already reached a fitting conclusion. We just saw Belair pick up the momentous win over her heated rival in a climactic gimmick match. What else is there to see from this pairing?

Well, thanks to WWE’s self-inflicted depth problems on SmackDown, it doesn’t matter if there’s anything left to see or not. With WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina wrapped up in their own neverending feud with Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke, Mia Yim yet to debut for the brand, Sasha Banks on hiatus, and Carmella and Liv Morgan likely to take part in the Money in the Bank ladder match, the promotion has left itself with few alternatives.

This is why Bayley and Belair have cut promos saying that they aren’t done with one another; the conditions that WWE created — through ineffective booking and corporate callousness — have ensured that they won’t be.

So, whether it makes sense or not, we will likely get another fun chapter in this story, but hopefully, it’s the last one for a little while.
