There is an art to effective storytelling in professional wrestling. All Elite Wrestling has continued to excel in that category, matched only by the action that is put on from bell to bell. This Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite officially kicked off the impending angle between AEW World Heavyweight Champion, Kenny Omega and Adam “Hangman” Page. This is an angle that should excite wrestling fans well beyond the excellency that will occur when the two men finally lock up.

Omega has been on a vision quest of sorts for 2021 to be the best year in his career. “The Belt Collector” has done just that. Look at his current run of matches against Jungle Boy, Moose, Rich Swann, Jon Moxley, Rey Fenix, and others. He adds to his greatest hits catalog nearly every time he steps into the ring.

But it is the development of Omega’s character outside the ring that makes this storyline with Page even more intriguing. Omega has continued to build in confidence, being more over the top every time a camera and microphone are in his face. Page, on the other hand, has earned some victories and losses in the same amount of time, but has not fully overcome losing the tag team titles with Omega at All Out in 2020, then losing to Omega in the AEW Title Eliminator at Full Gear a few shorts months later.

That was the starting point that would send Page off into the arms of AEW’s band of misfits, The Dark Order. Now, wrestling fans will get to watch as they rally behind Page to get his confidence and belief in himself up to a point where he stands up to face the boogeyman that Omega has become. Expect a winding tale of sorts that sees Page pick up big wins, perhaps against other members of The Elite along the way. Plus, this angle sets the stage to elevate The Dark Order at the same time by allowing those members to get potential matches against The Elite in a variety of ways.
