In some surprising news reported by various sources, Adam Cole’s contract with WWE is set to expire next month following the SummerSlam pay-per-view.

The news, first reported by Wrestling INC. stated that his contract was actually up following NXT’s Great American Bash event, but he extended the deal. Fightful then reported that internally only realized Cole’s contract was due to expire at very short notice.

Fightful’s report was quoted saying:

"“Despite that, we’re told that Adam Cole expressed to WWE that he was willing to work through Summerslam weekend and re-evaluate things. WWE sources put over Cole for being open to doing that as opposed to just appearing on another program without any notice by WWE. We were not told it if was a verbal agreement or if he signed a short-term extension.” (h/t Fightful)"

The news follows the release of popular superstar Bray Wyatt over the weekend. This isn’t the first time WWE has had some issues with talent contracts. Last month, Malakai Black (Aleister Black) left WWE with his no-compete clause not updated to reflect the usual 90 days.

Adam Cole contract issues the sign of problems behind the scenes?

We don’t want to speculate, but with this incident and the recent Aleister Black issues, it seems there are some internal communication issues within WWE. Of course, recently, WWE has been on a spree making what they are describing as ‘budget cuts’.

Adam Cole would certainly not have any problems finding work if he was to leave WWE. It shows his tremendous character extending his deal short-term beyond its expiry to wrap up on an ongoing feud. Things seemed to sound plain sailing in the recent Q2 2021 conference call, but with reports like this, you can’t help but wonder what is truly going on behind the scenes.
