Over the weekend, it was reported that the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship match at SummerSlam may not happen.

At WWE Supershow house shows over the weekend, both Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair were scheduled to appear. Neither showed up at those shows in Charlotte, NC or Columbia, SC. It was announced that they would not be appearing due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’. No further details were provided as to why they were absent.

Whilst nothing is confirmed at this point, PWInsider is reporting that several sources within WWE are concerned that the match will not be happening in Las Vegas. Of course, Banks and Belair appeared on SmackDown on Friday for their contract signing for the match at SummerSlam. Sasha Banks brought out Carmella and Zelina Vega to assist her with attacking Belair.

Is the SmackDown Women’s Championship SummerSlam match really not going to happen?

It may have just been a coincidence that Banks and Belair didn’t appear at house shows over the weekend. Over the weekend, we saw social media posts from Belair seemingly with family and friends, and also preparing her wrestling gear, likely for SummerSlam. It could be that both superstars were given the weekend off, and WWE had no other real way of explaining it to those in attendance.

There may have also been travel issues, or even Covid issues given the current climate. Unless something drastic has happened, it seems increasingly unlikely the match will not be happening a week out from the big event.

We will certainly see how things pan out during this week, if there are any further updates provided. Of course, SmackDown takes place this Friday, which would be one day away from the event at Allegiant Stadium. It would seemingly mean WWE will not want to wait until the last minute to make any changes, if they are required.
