WWE Rumor Roundup: More on Becky Lynch and Brock Lesnar
By Amit Shukla
Wrestling has evolved over the past week as CM Punk made his debut and wrestling return in AEW. The former ‘Voice of the Voiceless’ has dropped the word, but his return on AEW Rampage hasn’t dropped the numbers for the second-biggest wrestling promotion in the world. Punk tore his previous company down without saying a word because he only counted his Ring of Honor days, and the next was his debut on August 20th, 2021. The crowd was buzzing, and in the words of the Good Ol’ JR (from his WWE days), ‘It’s deafening in here.’
AEW fans were elated at this return, and so was the wrestling world when we saw two WWE superstars return after a hiatus at SummerSlam. Brock Lesnar returned, and so did Becky Lynch. While Brock didn’t win the title, his return and the subsequent possibility of showing up on SmackDown helped boost the ratings. It’s no wonder that Paul Heyman calls The Beast Incarnate the Box Office Attraction. While these returns caused a stir, the details about their plans after return haven’t gone well with the fans. Let’s look at what kept buzzing this week in the wrestling world, so without further ado, let’s get down to it:
Becky Lynch is a heel
Don’t try to re-look or re-confirm it because it’s true. According to PWInsider, Becky Lynch’s return will turn her heel. Marred with the backlash WWE have their way, Vince, and company are ready to destroy things more only to change in the foreseeable future. The last thing that the WWE would want is to turn a fan favorite superstar heel.
Fans wanted to see Becky since this year’s Rumble and even before, but as she was pregnant at that time and delivered a daughter in December, she couldn’t make such a quick return. She teased a return at WrestleMania 37 and Money In The Bank only to work the fans. With her new character, things may go the other way, but WWE is ready to go to the path less traveled.
Why Brock returned at SummerSlam but wasn’t in a match with Bobby Lashley?
Brock Lesnar’s return was the talking point of SummerSlam, but the fans are confused on why he returned if he didn’t get to face Bobby Lashley. The Almighty has expressed his desire to fight the former WWE champion, but Vince has other plans. According to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast, Brock’s return was WWE’s response to CM Punk’s return on AEW Rampage a day prior.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that Vince didn’t want Brock to lose in his return match, so he was kept away from the storyline. Goldberg’s loss will not hurt The Myth’s character, but Brock losing on return would be catastrophic, and WWE didn’t want to take a chance. Do you think they did it right? Sound off in the comments.
