WWE SmackDown results Sept. 17: Rollins isn’t finished with Edge
WWE SmackDown results this week from Knoxville, TN. WWE.com has advertised that there will be a homecoming for Bianca Belair in her hometown. Seth Rollins will speak out about his victory over Edge last week and his actions. Rick Boogs will face Robert Roode. And Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, will look to avoid ‘The Demon’ Finn Balor as the walls close in on him.
WWE SmackDown Results September 17, 2021 – Live from Knoxville, TN
A recap is shown of the final moments of the Seth Rollins vs. Edge match at Madison Square Garden. Michael Cole does a voiceover questioning what the ramifications are for Rollins.
We then cut to the arena as the Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, with Paul Heyman and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos make their entrance. A video is also shown of the segment with Brock Lesnar from last week, and then the segment with ‘The Demon’ Finn Balor appearing.
Reigns starts the opening segment by telling Knoxville to acknowledge him. Reigns then hands the mic to Paul Heyman to teach Knoxville how to acknowledge him. Heyman says Reigns fears no man, no beast and no demon.
Heyman suggests Finn Balor and Brock Lesnar fear Roman Reigns. The new WWE Champion, Big E, then makes his way out to the ring. The fans chant ‘you deserve it!’ and ‘Big E!’ A great ovation for the new champ. Finn Balor’s music then hits and he makes his way out.
We return from a commercial with a tag team match between The Usos and Finn Balor & Big E.
The Uso’s vs. Big E & Finn Balor in a non-title match
A hot tag to Big E late in the match as he gets fired up. The Usos manage to get back into the flow of things. Big E kicks out of a superkick. Balor then returns to the ring, and they both manage to deliver their finishers on Jimmy and Jey at the same time, with Big E picking up the win for his team.
Winner: WWE Champion, Big E & Finn Balor
Backstage, Roman Reigns sat looking disappointed with Paul Heyman. Reigns then asks Heyman if there’s something he wants to tell him or needs to know. Heyman repeatedly says nothing.
Heyman gets emotional and reiterates that he did not know that Brock Lesnar was coming to SummerSlam. Reigns then asks Paul if Lesnar will show up Extreme Rules. Heyman immediately says no, which makes it look like he already knew. Reigns questions how would Heyman know. Heyman says he just assumed, and Reigns says he doesn’t pay Heyman to assume.
Rick Boogs w/ King Nakamura vs. Robert Roode w/ Dolph Ziggler
Boogs puts in another solid performance and delivers his Pumphandle Slam to Roode to pick up the win. Boogs remains undefeated. McAfee, Boogs, and Nakamura dance on the announce table. They are then attacked from behind by Commander Azeez and Apollo Crews. Crews picks up the Intercontinental Championship and looks at it, then throws it back down to Nakamura.
Winner: Rick Boogs
Apollo Crews then gets in the ring and on the mic and says Nakamura has made a mockery of the Intercontinental Championship. Crews challenges Nakamura to a rematch for the title.
Backstage, Happy Corbin is shown walking and whistling. He faces Kevin Owens next.
Backstage in gorilla, Kevin Owens is interviewed and says tonight he will use his anger towards Corbin and beat the hell out of him. He says tonight we’re going to have Happy Kevin.
Kevin Owens vs. Happy Corbin
Happy Corbin, wearing a lovely pink shirt and hat, attacks Owens as ‘The Prizefighter’ makes his entrance. Corbin then chokeslams Owens on the ring apron. Corbin smiles and appears to be very pleased with his actions. It looks like we aren’t getting the match.
Winner: The match didn’t begin
A small recap is shown of Edge being wheeled into the ambulance last week. Michael Cole says Edge is resting at home but questions if he ever be the same again.
Seth Rollins music hits and he makes his way to the ring. He looks like he’s gotten over what happened last week. He’s dancing and has a big smile on his face.
Backstage after the commercial, Paul Heyman is interviewed but he gets angry and tells Kayla Braxton to leave him alone. He then bumps into Big E. Heyman wishes him congratulations. Heyman says Big E was wise to choose to cash in on the WWE Champion. Out of nowhere, The Usos attack Big E with a vicious beat down.
We go back to the ring with Seth Rollins. He’s been waiting a while. He made a comment saying “someone should have helped Big E there.” Yep. Where was Finn Balor? Rollins says what happened to Edge was unfortunate, unsettling, and scary. He said he heard a pop and felt a crunch when he delivered The Stomp.
He compares it to stamping on a cockroach. Rollins points to the Titantron to show the footage from last week. Rollins asks the WWE Universe what they thought was going to happen. He says it was one of the greatest wins of his career. Rollins says Edge went too far because he’s a family man and he knew the risks and consequences.
He blames the WWE Universe for what happened to Edge. Seth says he is not done with Edge. Rollins looks into the camera to Edge watching at home and asks if Edge is physically or emotionally capable of getting back into the ring. Seth says he felt sorry for Edge and he doesn’t like it and wants to move on. He says he can’t move on without finishing Edge off.
Backstage with Kayla Braxton, who interviews SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch. Lynch says she’s never been to homecoming, so she might have to check it out later.
Zelina Vega & Carmella vs. Toni Storm & Liv Morgan – Finally, a women’s match on SmackDown!
The match ended when Carmella was pushed into the middle turnbuckle by Liv Morgan. Carmella screams outside the ring about her nose and the referee counts her out.
Winner: Liv Morgan & Toni Storm by countout
After the match, Liv Morgan challenges Carmella to a match at Extreme Rules. Morgan says if she agrees, she will make Carmella looks as hideous on the outside as she is on the inside.
Backstage, The Street Profits promo time. The Profits say they are hungry for the tag team championship gold. Hey Profits, where were you helping Big E earlier from The Usos?
Backstage after the commercial in the medical room, Zelina confirms Carmella still looks beautiful and it turns out her nose is fine. Carmella calls Liv Morgan a five. Carmella accepts Morgan’s challenge to Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville who were in the medical room with them.
Backstage, a Finn Balor promo about the origins of ‘The Demon’. He says The Demon comes from inside and manifestation of everything and everyone that has told him no and hurt him. Balor says he doesn’t summon The Demon, The Demon summons him.
Backstage, Naomi approaches Sonya Deville. Naomi says she’s been more than patient and respectful. Naomi intimidates Sonya and says one way or another she will get her match.
Dominik Mysterio vs. Sami Zayn
Dom told Rey to stay in the back this time for the match. Rey decides to make his way out and join the commentary team. Late in the match, Dominik went for the frog splash, but Sami managed to get his knees up, and then pin Mysterio. Rey was frustrated on commentary with some things Dominik did.
Winner: Sami Zayn
A video package is shown of Bianca Belair’s time in Knoxville.
Kane, the mayor of Knox County and WWE Hall of Famer, comes to the ring for Bianca Belair’s homecoming. Kane introduces her to the ring. Belair says Knoxville made her into ‘The EST’. She says at Extreme Rules she will take back her SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Kane says they will have a huge celebration in her honour when she wins back the title. Kane then presents her with the key to Knox County. Becky Lynch then interrupts the celebrations, as expected.
Lynch says she didn’t come out to steal Bianca’s thunder. She says tonight is Bianca’s night. Becky wants Belair to shake her hand. Belair shakes her hand but she doesn’t let go when Becky tries to walk away. Belair then tries to put Becky into the KOD, but then Lynch manages to reverse it into a Manhandle Slam.
