If you are part of the echo chamber that thinks WWE’s PG era is wasted potential then this new wrestling game will be right up your alley. Ultra-Violence is possibly the closest thing to a wrestling game cross-breeding with Mortal Kombat.

Ultra-Violence was created by @Gackdaw who had been working in the game industry for 14 years. He was on the development team for the Arkham games. His dream has been to make a wrestling game that embodies the insane brutality of backyard wrestling, deathmatches, and bloodshed. That is why his game will include create-a-weapon, ropes made out of light tubes, and six table scaffoldings.

Ultra-Violence is going to focus more on the logistics of deathmatches than anything else. Gackdaw may not include tag teams, handicaps, or fatal four-ways so he can focus on the complexity of a one-on-one violent brawl. His first and second wave of characters includes G-Raver, Ruckus, Lou King Sharp, Akira the Death Samurai, John Wayne Murdoch, and Reed Bentley. A YouTube search of their names will come with a deathmatch.

There are a few demos of game footage. In one we see two bald-headed jobbers smack each other around until one of them implants tattoo needles into the head of the other. The other pre-alpha footage shows Ruckus showing off his finisher moves on a jobber. The latest gameplay shows a reversal meter, a Tony Hawk-esque scoring system where you can link moves and taunts, and the finishing moves of Ruckus. This also answers the question of whether Ultra-Violence will have actual grapple moves and not just weapon melee.

This game is slated for a PC release. It’s not going to be for everyone as the fans of deathmatch wrestling are a minority compared to brands like WWE. The last time we had a super violent wrestling game it was Backyard Wrestling 1 and 2 for the PS2 and Xbox. Thank the stars this game probably won’t have the Insane Clown Posse in it. Players will be able to create ring setups with barbed wire, exposed ring floors, and weapons that the crowds throw to you.

Ultra-Violence looks smooth and it is obviously in capable hands with Gackdaw. It is noteworthy that the promotion Gorelando (Orland Death Squads) is helping with all the bump and spot animations. It will be the strength of the gameplay that ultimately puts it above other violent wrestling games that didn’t go over as well (RIP ECW Hardcore Revolution). I like what I see, but I have to be honest. Ultra-Violence might be more for the Mortal Kombat, GCW, and Backyard Wrestling crowd than the casual wrestling fan.

A release date has not been confirmed yet and the game does not have a publisher, but the game is moving forward.
