AEW Dynamite: Preview and Predictions for September 29, 2021
AEW Dynamite is back on Wednesday night and will be broadcast from Rochester, New York, the hometown of the late, great Brodie Lee.
Coming off of their Grand Slam episodes, AEW will look to continue their momentum with another strong card, steeped in storytelling.
In addition to the strong match card, there are also rumors that the newest member of AEW may make his debut on this night. Windham Rotunda, formerly known as Bray Wyatt just might make his first Dynamite appearance this Wednesday.
If Rotunda is indeed free from his 90-day non-compete and if he has signed with All Elite Wrestling, then this spot would make perfect sense for him to debut.
Rotunda and Brodie Lee were very close friends, and having Rotunda come in as the new leader of the Dark Order would not only be a nice tribute to Brodie but would also tie perfectly into the story of the Dark Order, as the faction has been a squabbling, directionless mess since losing its leader.
Whether Rotunda makes his debut or not, there is still plenty going on in AEW.
What will be next for Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson after their instant classic of a match at last week’s Dynamite?
Is Cody Rhodes heading for a heel turn after clearly being booed in his match and eventual loss to Malakai Black?
After beating Powerhouse Hobbs on Rampage will CM Punk move on to challenge the FTW champion, Ricky Starks, next?
This week’s show is guaranteed to be an action-packed two hours.
Let’s take a look at the announced match card and what to expect on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
Adam Cole vs Jungle Boy
After scoring the pinfall on Luchasaurus on last Friday’s episode of Rampage, Adam Cole will look to get a win over another member of Jurassic Express when he goes one-on-one with Jungle Boy.
This match is tricky as AEW is clearly very high on Jungle Boy, and it is just a matter of time before he scores a signature win in singles competition.
But in Cole, AEW has one of the best wrestlers going today, and this isn’t the right spot for Jungle Boy to go over as it would take some of the shine off of Adam Cole just roughly three weeks after his debut.
This is going to be an excellent match that should open the show and set a frenetic pace to what might just end up being another landmark episode of Dynamite.
Jungle Boy will give Adam Cole all he can handle, but in the end, Cole will score a clean victory, further proving why he belongs in the Elite. Winner: Adam Cole
Dante Martin & Matt Sydal vs Cody Rhodes & Lee Johnson
First off, kudos to AEW. With all the free-agent talent that the promotion has brought in recently, it is so good to see them continue to spotlight their young talent that has absolutely delivered anytime they have been called upon, such as Dante Martin and Lee Johnson.
At first glance, this seems like the perfect spot for Cody Rhodes to get back on the winning track as he is clearly on a different level right now than the three men that he will be sharing the ring with during this match.
However, having Rhodes and Johnson lose would accomplish two things.
First, it would allow Dante Martin to pick up a much-deserved win on Dynamite. Martin has been an absolute star in his last few matches and it would be great if creative rewarded him here with a victory.
Second, it would further add to the frustration of Cody Rhodes and if he takes his frustration out on Lee Johnson after the match, it will help elevate another Johnson to another level.
Lee Johnson could take the pinfall, and Cody could lose his patience and drop Johnson after the match and that would work just fine.
But the most effective storyline here is to have Cody take the pinfall himself, and then take it out on Johnson, blaming him for not being in the right place at the right time.
It isn’t a certainty that this is where Cody turns full heel. He may just continue to show not-so-subtle signs at the upcoming turn. But this is still an opportunity to continue to build the budding star that is Dante Martin that must be capitalized on. Winners: Dante Martin & Matt Sydal
Penelope Ford & Bunny vs Tay Conti & Anna Jay
The team collectively known as Tay Jay will look to get some retribution against two women that have repeatedly used brass knuckles to score wins against them in recent matches, in Penelope Ford and the Bunny.
This seems like a very good spot for the babyfaces to get their revenge.
This match may end up breaking down into chaos as the Hardy Family Office, Best Friends, and the Dark Order could all be involved.
At the conclusion of the match, the Dark Order will most likely continue to bicker and be about to come to blows when the lights go out and the new leader of the Dark Order, Windham Rotunda, fka Bray Wyatt, will make his AEW debut.
This will get the faction back on track, and hopefully back to their dastardly ways, which may cause some decisions to be made about whether all the members of the Dark Order will stay with the faction under this new leadership.
Either way, Rotunda will get the Dark Order back in the spotlight in AEW. And oh yeah, Conti and Jay will pick up the win. Winners: Tay Conti & Anna Jay
Sammy Guevara vs Miro for the TNT Championship
For the first time since winning the TNT Championship, Miro’s title reign may be in jeopardy.
There are a handful of wrestlers that should be in the running to end Miro’s title run and Sammy Guevara is part of that group.
Sammy has a lot to gain here. Revenge for himself and his buddy, Fuego Del Sol (who lost his new car to Miro), and of course the TNT Title.
Eventually one of AEW’s young rising stars will get the job done against Miro, but it just doesn’t feel like this is the spot to end Miro’s reign of dominance.
Guevara will win his share of titles in AEW, and more than likely the TNT will be the first one he captures.
But it feels like Miro needs a couple more signature wins over top-level talent before he loses his first match and to really cement his place in AEW as a destroyer.
That being said, Miro will pass yet another tough test and retain his TNT title. Winner: Miro
