Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that December’s WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view will no longer go ahead.

The event had been scheduled for Sunday December 12 and was set to take place in Chicago, Illinois at the Allstate Arena. The pay-per-view was then reportedly moved to the following week, and has now been ultimately removed from the calendar.

As it stands, WWE currently has two pay-per-views scheduled for January 2022; Day 1 on January 1, and the Royal Rumble on January, 29. Meltzer reports this was a key factor with WWE now focusing on the Day 1 event for the remainder of the year.

This now means that Survivor Series in November in Brooklyn, NY will be the last pay-per-view event of the year. Traditionally, TLC has always capped off the year in the month of December.

To compensate for the cancelled event, WWE will now film SmackDown from Allstate Arena on Friday December 17.

Last year’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view featured Roman Reigns defending the Universal Championship against Kevin Owens in a TLC match. The event also saw Randy Orton face The Fiend in a Firefly Inferno Match, which saw Orton set the body of The Fiend on fire at the conclusion of the show.

No WWE PPV in December for the first time since 1994

Tables, Ladders and Chairs has been a crucial part of the WWE pay-per-view calendar for many years now. It will be the first time since 1994 that hasn’t featured a December PPV on its calendar. The focus now shifts to Day 1 following Survivor Series. It appears WWE has some big plans for the event on January 1.

On the flip side of the cancelled pay-per-view, it may not be a bad thing moving forward. Gimmick pay-per-views have become somewhat tiresome, and it forces to WWE superstars to compete in a specific gimmick match that may not exactly fit their rivalry. 2020 may well have ended up being the final Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view WWE produce.
